Oil and Trump: Russians Full of Optimism in Davos

What a difference a year makes. Twelve months ago, the mood of the Russian delegation at the World Economic Forum in Davos was distinctly gloomy, with oil prices near 12-year lows below $30 per barrel and Western sanctions depressing their economy and financial markets. Since then, however, Russian stock and bond markets have risen about 50 percent, boosted by rebounding oil and - more recently - expectations the new U.S. presidency of Donald Trump will ease the sanctions imposed over Moscow's actions in Ukraine. Russian officials and company executives at the forum attended by the world's political and business elites in the Swiss Alps this week were far more bullish, with many predicting the markets rally would continue this year.

Leading Shipping Equity Analyst Joins Clarkson Capital Markets

Clarkson Capital Markets, the investment banking arm of shipping services group Clarkson PLC,  says it has enhanced its equity research coverage with the appointment of Omar Nokta as Managing Director of Shipping Research. Omar will be based in CCM's New York office. Omar brings significant sector experience and expertise to Clarkson Capital Markets. He joins CCM from Global Hunter Securities LLC where he was Senior Shipping Analyst. Prior to this he was Senior Research Analyst at Dahlman Rose, where he helped build the company into one of the leading shipping focussed investment banks, advancing its energy, commodities and metals and mining product offering.

Clarkson Capital Markets (CCM) equity analyst, Urs Dur, winds silver medal for being one of the industry's top stock tipsters. The award was in the marine category in this year's Thompson Reuter's annual 'StarMine Analyst Awards' which are issued in collaboration with the 'Financial Times'. Clarkson Capital Markets (CCM) is the investment banking arm of Clarkson PLC, focussed on the global maritime, energy and natural resources sectors.

Mr. Peter Evensen Named CMA 2013 Commodore

Award to be presented March 20, 2013 at the conclusion of the CMA's Shipping 2013 Annual Conference and Exposition. Mr. Peter Evensen, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Teekay Corporation (Teekay) has been named as the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) Commodore for the year 2013. Mr. Evensen follows a long succession of influential maritime industry leaders as Commodore. The 2013 Commodore Award will be presented to Mr. Evensen on March 20, 2013 at the Gala Dinner marking the conclusion of the annual Connecticut Maritime Association conference and trade exposition, at the Hilton Hotel in Stamford, Connecticut, USA. The Award is given each year to a person in the international maritime industry who has contributed to the growth and development of the industry.
