Damen Naval, a naval shipbuilding division of the Dutch Damen Shipyards Group,  has signed a contract with the first Dutch supplier for the four new Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Frigates to be built for the Dutch and Belgian Navies. Netherlands-based RH Marine will supply the Integrated Mission Management System (IMMS), the Integrated Navigation Bridge System (INBS), and the Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) for each of the four frigates for the Dutch and Belgian Navies.

Rolls-Royce's Power Systems business unit, headquartered in Friedrichshafen, Germany, will deliver the automation solutions (in German FüSAS – Führungssystem Automation Schiffstechnik) for the four new F126 frigates for the German Navy.Damen Naval is building the four F126 class frigates together with its partners Blohm+Voss and Thales, after the partners were selected as successful bidders in 2020 following a European tender process spanning several years. The first ship is expected to be delivered to the German Navy in Hamburg in 2028.

Seaspan Shipyards (Seaspan) has awarded L3 MAPPS a contract for work on Canada’s new Joint Support Ships (JSS).According to a press release, the award is one of several to be announced for Canadian suppliers supporting Seaspan’s work on naval supply ships under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS). This work will contribute to Seaspan fulfilling its Industrial and Technological Benefits Policy commitments.Based in Montreal, L3 MAPPS will provide the globally deployed Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) for JSS. On December 13th, Brazilian company WEG Electric Equipment, and Dutch company Praxis Automation Technology, both leading companies within their respective fields, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the bid of Damen Shipyards Group and Saab for the construction of four corvettes for the Brazilian Navy. Davie Shipbuilding announced that during the weekend it launched the largest naval vessel ever to be delivered from a Canadian shipyard – on time, to budget and at an internationally competitive cost. Commissioning of all onboard systems began in early September and on the 16th November 2017, the ship will perform its sea-trials prior to achieving Full Operational Capability (FOC). Indian Navy commissioned LCU L52 - a landing craft - which will be deployed for a variety of activities including transporting battle tanks and other heavy weapons systems. "Dr. Jagdish Mukhi, Lieutenant Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, commissioned IN LCU L52 into the Indian Navy on 21 August 2017 at Port Blair. IN LCU L52 is the second Landing Craft Utility (LCU) Mk-IV class to be inducted into the Indian Navy," said a press release from the Navy. The ship has been indigenously designed and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Kolkata. The commissioning of L-52 is yet another manifestation of the potential of the country’s indigenous design and ship building capability.

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) introduced a new port security system valued at more than $53 million to safeguard customer cargo, port users, as well as Transnet’s own port assets, staff and contractors. Phumuzi Sigasa, head of TNPA’s Port Security Portfolio added: “In conformance with regulations and our own Integrated Security Management Systems - Security Strategy Plan, we are rolling out an upgraded security system across our eight South African commercial ports and our head office in Johannesburg.

Kongsberg Maritime has announced that it has been selected by L-3 MAPPS to provide the CCTV system for the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) new class of Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS). L-3 MAPPS is one of the Tier 1 suppliers to Irving Shipbuilding, Prime Contractor delivering the AOPS vessels as a part of the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy (NSPS). Kongsberg Maritime has over 70 employees in Dartmouth, Vancouver and St. Johns, 190 employees in the U.K. and approximately 4,600 total across the world.

The fully integrated platform management system Servowatch designed and built for three new offshore patrol vessels for the U.K. Royal Navy has completed BAE Systems’ Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT). Servowatch, the supplier of advanced integrated ship control systems, will now integrate the IPMS package at BAE Systems’ shipyard on the River Clyde, Glasgow, Scotland, where the next-generation OPVs are currently under construction. The Ports of Cape Town and Saldanha became the latest to go live with Transnet National Ports Authority’s new R79 million web-based Integrated Port Management System (IPMS), first introduced at the pilot site, the Port of Durban in July. IPMS replaces manual processes and enables key port operations to managed online and in real time across TNPA’s eight commercial ports. All vessels arriving at the two Western Cape ports between August 26-31 will be allowed priority registration, provided vessels agents are trained.

The Turkish shipyard SEDEF has signed a contract with the Turkey's procurement agency, the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) for the design and construction of Landing Platform Dock (LPD) for the Turkish Navy. The 231-meter landing platform dock that is capable of carrying 1,000 personnel. Mujdat Uludag, a senior official at SSM, said the project is expected to end in 2021. Uludağ noted the capabilities of the Turkish Naval Forces will be advanced with this LPD, adding the warship would be able to sail in the Aegean, Mediterranean and Black Seas. “If needed, the warship can also sail in the Indian and Atlantic Oceans,” he said. The contract covers design and construction of an LPD ship based on the Spanish Navy's Navantia designed and built LHD Juan Carlos I.

Servowatch Systems chief executive officer Wayne Ross has praised the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) for winning the KNVTS Ship of the Year Award for its new search and rescue boat, Nh1816. “We are proud to have been associated with this revolutionary vessel,” said Ross. Ross explained that Servowatch Systems has been involved in the project from the outset as KNRM required a vessel with an “exceptionally high level” of automation and systems integration. “We were able to meet the requirement with our turnkey ServoFusion solution,” said Ross.

Rolls-Royce has unveiled a new design of maritime patrol craft at the Defense and Security Event International (DSEI) in London. The first of a protection vessel family of designs, is a new 55-meter craft featuring a range of equipment from Rolls-Royce (stabilizers, thrusters, steering gear, fixed pitch propellers) and MTU (diesels, diesel generators, Callosum IPMS), offering a cost-effective design that can be tailored to mission requirements. Weighing around 500 metric tons, the new vessel is suited to patrol, search and rescue and interception duties.

GE’s Power Conversion (NYSE: GE) business has started fitting the latest generation of Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) ships Wave Knight and Wave Ruler. The technology is designed extend the life and versatility of the IPMS fitted to the two ships, helping the RFA to maintain at-sea supply capabilities in supporting the Royal Navy’s global maritime operations. The IPMS includes machinery control and surveillance, damage surveillance and control, electrical power control and management and Replenishment at Sea (RAS) functions.

Servowatch Systems Limited, UK-based marine automation systems engineering company, announced success in securing the contract to deliver an Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) for a planned series of Offshore Patrol Vessels to be delivered to the Royal Thai Navy by The Bangkok Dock Co. (1957) Ltd. The IPMS shall include ship alarm, monitoring, power management, propulsion control, battle damage control functions and navigation systems integration. The design is based upon the package delivered on the original design of this vessel from BAE Systems.

Northstar Network Ltd. announced that it has been awarded another add-on to the multi million contract awarded by L-3 MAPPS Inc. in March 2009 to build consoles for land-based trainers for the Halifax Class of ships. The original contract to manufacture 66 Standard Marine Consoles and 60 Local Operating Panels as part of its Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) was broadened in August 2009 to include the design and manufacture of the land-based training simulators for the East Coast Navies. Now the contract is once again being expanded to add the Canadian Navy’s west coast training simulators, engineering support for the program and additional components for both domestic and foreign naval upgrade programs.

Transas has developed a new engine room simulator of the Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV). A new simulator has been installed at the Royal New Zealand Navy Engineering School as a part of their Marine Engineering Sythetic Training Environmet (MESTE) complex. The project was locally supported by the Electronic Navigation Ltd. The simulator provides the RNZN with a flexible solution to meet their training and assessment needs. A feature of MESTE is the overall simulation of the OPV's Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS).

Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) has awarded a multi-year contract for the manufacture and supply of propeller blades for the Canadian Patrol Frigates (CPF) to Dominis Engineering Ltd. of Ottawa. The contract calls for the supply of two ship-sets, with an option for the third set, for a total of 30 propeller blades. Dominis IPMS (Integrated Propeller Manufacturing System) uses the company's proprietary technology for CNC milling of sculptured surfaces to final form. This manufacturing system is used in the production of propeller blades, monoblock propellers, hydraulic turbines, turbine blades and impellers. CAE has been selected to supply shipboard control systems for the fifth in a series of KDX-II class destroyers for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN). List price for similar repeat business is approximately $C6 million. The complete system will be delivered in 2005. This contract, awarded by prime contractor Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME), marks the tenth selection of CAE's integrated platform management system (IPMS) for the ROKN. Since 2000, DSME and CAE have collaborated on two other KDX-II vessels. "The DSME shipyard and the ROKN are longstanding customers, and this contract certainly reinforces CAE's position as a key supplier," said Rashid Khan, CAE's executive vice-president for marine control systems.
