U.K.-based NR Marine Services has placed an order with compatriot shipbuilder Divers Marine for a new new crew transfer vessel (CTV) to service the offshore wind industry. This newbuild, to be named NR Predator, will be a first of class Diverse Marine 27-meter CTV featuring a traditional catamaran hull form that has been CFD tested and optimized to provide class-leading seakeeping coupled with reduced fuel consumption and emissions, the builder said.This vessel is being built as "hybrid ready" with an insulated generator space ready to receive generators and batteries.

Volvo Penta has secured a contract to provide quad IPS propulsion systems for the four new offshore wind farm crew transfer vessels (CTVs) that will be built at Blount Boats for American Offshore Services (AOS). The new 30-meter (99-ft.) twin-hull CTVs will be powered by four IPS900 propulsion drives, two in each hull. The fully integrated system will also include Volvo Penta’s GPS-based Dynamic Positioning System and integrated joystick controls, allowing for convenient and easy maneuverability even in conditions of strong currents and high waves.

Refit and repair provider Diverse Marine Ltd has signed a modification and upcycling contract with an offshore wind crew transfer vessel (CTV) service provider Turner Iceni Ltd. for the modification and upcycling of ‘Iceni Courage’ following a competitive tender process.According to the UK-based naval architect, the Iceni Courage is a 15m crew transfer vessel built in the yard back in 2009.The dynamic offshore wind sector has developed over the last decade with a requirement for larger, faster and more efficient craft so the time had come for the vessel’s owners to consider a sale or repurposing of the vessel out of the offshore wind industry.However…

Visitors to one of Europe’s premier marine exhibitions will be able to test Volvo Penta’s 13-liter IMO Tier III solution complemented by its latest state-of-the-art Inboard Performance System (IPS) propulsion package. Njord Odin, the first of a series of advanced 26m windfarm support vessels (WSV) for Njord Offshore, has completed sea trials, designer BMT Nigel Gee announced. Developed from BMT’s range of WSVs, these are the largest BMT-designed vessels built to date. Built by Strategic Marine, Njord Odin is also the first to be fitted with a quadruple installation of the Volvo Penta IPS system, with the forward-facing, twin counter-rotating propellers and individually steerable pods under the hull. The vessel is 26.3m in length with a beam of 9.3m with each of the four Volvo IPS900 units delivering 515 kW.

This summer, Volvo Penta takes one of its test boats down to the English Channel to show dealers, customers, press and other interested parties the benefits of the Volvo Penta IPS high performance pod system. One of the stopovers is at Southampton SEAWORK exhibition in the U.K. This trip is inspired by the Volvo Penta IPS Baltic Trip that was performed during summer 2011. The test boat, PTA80, chosen for this trip is one of Volvo Penta’s regular test boats, used at the Volvo Penta Marine Test Center outside Gothenburg. PTA80 is 72 feet long and powered by the new twin IPS900 at 700 hp each.
