BP, Rio Tinto in Year-long Marine Biofuel Trial

Mining giant Rio Tinto has entered an agreement with the oil major BP to start a one-year biofuel trial to reduce carbon emissions from Rio Tinto’s marine fleet. Under the trial, BP is supplying Rio Tinto with marine biofuel for approximately 12 months. Bowles Leads St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp.

The Board of the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Terence F. Bowles as President and CEO, effective November 1. Bowles was President and CEO of the Iron Ore Company of Canada from 2001 to 2010. A chemical engineer with an MBA from McGill University, he previously had a long and varied career at Quebec Iron and Titanium, culminating as its President. He replaces Richard Corfe, who is retiring after nearly 28 years with the organization.

New St. Lawrence Seaway Board Members & CEO

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation announced the following recent changes to its Board of Directors. Ian MacGregor assumed the position of Chair of the Board at the meeting of the Board held on August 18, 2010. MacGregor replaces Guy Véronneau, who recently left the Board after serving as Chair for the past four years. MacGregor is a director of Seaway Marine Transport and Chairman of Golden Star Resources Ltd. David L. Muir, FCA joined the Board of Directors in May 2010 as the representative of the Federal Government. Muir is Senior Vice President, Collins Barrow Ottawa Management Consultants Inc. Jonathan Bamberger joined the Board of Directors on August 28th as the industry representative for the Corporation’s “Other Members”.
