Jan De Nul Orders Offshore Cable Layer with Record-Breaking Capacity
Offshore installation services company Jan De Nul has ordered an extra-large cable-laying ship with an "unrivaled" cable-carrying capacity from China's CMHI Haimen shipyard.The vessel, to be named Fleeming Jenkin, will have a cable-carrying capacity of 28,000 tons, and will serve the renewable energy and subsea cable industry in installing cables over longer distances and in deeper waters. The vessel will be delivered in 2026. Ocean Yield Sells Connector Vessel to Jan De Nul
Luxembourg-based marine services company Jan De Nul Group has agreed to buy the offshore construction and cable-lay vessel Connector from Ocean Yield. The vessel will be officially transferred during the fourth quarter of 2020.The Connector, previously known as Lewek Connector, is an advanced subsea construction & cable-lay vessel that was operating on a long-term bareboat charter until February 2017. Ocean Yield has, expecting a market recovery, for the past years traded the vessel in the short-term market.
Jan de Nul Completes Umbilical Installation Offshore Egypt
Marine engineering firm Jan De Nul Group Jan De Nul Group has completed the installation and burial of the two main subsea umbilicals for the exploitation of new gas fields in the West Nile Delta concessions, located in the North Alexandria region, offshore Egypt.According to the company release, specifically for this project, Jan De Nul Group reconfigured its multi-purpose vessel Willem de Vlamingh into an efficient Umbilical Installation Vessel.The two umbilicals, with a total length of 69 km, were loaded in Norway in May 2018 and transported to Egypt. The installation campaign started with a 3-km beach pull for which the Willem de Vlamingh positioned in water depths of 7 m.
US Navy Enhances Ship Testing Capability
A new 1,000-pound inertial actuator, the AMA1000, is giving engineers at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD) unprecedented capability in full-scale testing. John Miesner, an engineer assigned to Carderock Division's Acoustic Signatures Technology Division, said the Navy has used actuators like the AMA1000 in a wet environment for many years, but the shakers, as they are called, were not capable of producing high forces at a broad range of frequencies until 2014.
Jan De Nul Acquires Cable Laying Vessel
On Friday 27th November 2015, the cable laying vessel Isaac Newton has been officially handed over to Jan De Nul Group by the shipyard Uljanik Brodogradiliste in Pula, Croatia. The same day still, the vessel set sail to Norway to pick up the cables for its first job. The cables will then be transported to and installed in the Middle East. The Isaac Newton is the latest addition to Jan De Nul Group's already impressive fleet and will be the largest cable laying vessel of its kind, capable to transport and install over 10,000 tons of cable per single trip. The largest out of two carousels on board has a carrying capacity up to 7,400 tons.
Jan De Nul Acquires Jack-up Heavy Lift Vessel
The dredging and maritime management company Jan de Nul Group signed the acquisition of the offshore facility vessel Vidar, which previously worked for the German company Hochtief. The facility vessel Vidar, which is less than two years old, was specially built for installing offshore wind farms at sea and is one of the largest of its kind in the world. “With the Vidar in our fleet we considerably extend our specialized services for the installation of offshore windparks,” says Peter De Pooter, Manager Offshore Renewable at Jan De Nul Group.
