China to Ban Vessels from Area Near Taiwan Over Rocket Debris
China will ban vessels from an area near Taiwan on Sunday because of the possibility of falling rocket debris, its maritime safety agency said on Thursday, as Japan sought details from Beijing on a reported no-fly zone in the same location. China has not commented on the no-fly zone, but South Korea, which was also briefed on the plans, said it was due to a falling object related to a launch vehicle. Chinese Spy Ship Enters Japanese Territorial Waters
A Chinese military ship entered the waters of south-western Japan on Wednesday, EFE news reported quoting government officials. This is the first such incident in over a decade and comes a week after a Chinese navy ship sailed near the disputed Senkaku islands. Ap reported Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroshige Seko as saying that a Maritime Self-Defense Force plane spotted the ship in Japanese waters west of Kuchinoerabu island in southern Japan before dawn. The ship sailed out of Japan's waters about 90 minutes later. “The government will continue to take all possible measures for warning and surveillance activity for our territorial waters and airspace,” Seko said.
Kawasaki Celebrates Century in Power
Japanese licensee marks milestone in diesel engine manufacture Kawasaki Heavy Industry (KHI) has celebrated the 100th anniversary of its engine-manufacturing license with MAN Diesel & Turbo. Spread over four days, the celebrations were capped with a technical event in Kobe featuring over 140 attendees. Dr Stephan Timmermann, member of MAN Diesel & Turbo’s Executive Board, spoke of the special relationship between his company and its longest prevailing licensee. Dr Timmermann pointed to the uniqueness of the cooperation in the world of licensing, due to other such often developing in different directions, or that technology losing relevance.
