Harvey Soaks Louisiana as Houston Struggles With Flooding

Tropical Storm Harvey bore down on Louisiana on Wednesday, pouring down more water after setting rainfall records in Texas that caused catastrophic flooding and paralyzed the U.S. energy hub of Houston. The storm that first came ashore on Friday as the most powerful hurricane to hit Texas in more than 50 years has killed at least 17 people and forced tens of thousands to leave their deluged homes. Damage has been estimated at tens of billions of dollars, making it one of the costliest U.S. natural disasters. There is some relief in sight for Houston, the fourth most populous U.S. city, with forecasters saying five days of torrential rain may come to an end as the storm picks up speed and leaves the Gulf of Mexico region later in the day.

Kauai, U.S. Coast Guard Prepare for Superferry's Return

The Hawaii Superferry's fate in Hawaii is uncertain. All eyes are on the legal courts on the island of Maui, who are still in the midst of deciding the legality of the Hawaii Superferry's inter-island services. The Hawaii State Legislature, meanwhile, is preparing to call a special session to vote on the same topic should the local court ban the Hawaii Superferry. And environmentalists throughout the island state are pushing for the public to voice their disapproval of the ferry. Meanwhile, the island of Kauai is preparing for the Hawaii Superferry's return after being forced away last month by environmental activists in kayaks and on surfboards blocking the Hawaii Superferry's port at Nawiliwili Harbor.

Kvichak Marine Building Cummins-Powered Catamaran

"This project represents our commitment to the passenger vessel industry, including high speed catamarans," says Kvichak Marine's Art Parker. The boat, to operate year round on the Na Pali Coast, will be rated for 100 passengers on scheduled snorkeling and whale watch day trips. In the evenings she will serve catered meals for up to 40 sit down diners. The main deck house is open to the aft with front and side windows providing shelter while the stern area is open. The top deck carries the pilot house and additional open seating.
