Port agency and marine services company Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) announced it has appointed Harun Duzgoren as the regional chief executive officer for the Americas, effective September 1, 2023.Duzgoren brings to the role 23 years of managerial experience in the global marine services industry. Prior to joining ISS, he served as the chief commercial officer of Subsea Global Solutions. Before that, he spent 16 years at V.Group, where he held various senior international positions.

Berg Propulsion opened new offices in Istanbul to reinforce its presence in Turkey and the surrounding region. The operation will be led by Mustafa Müslüm, who has been appointed General Manager, Berg Propulsion Eurasia.Müslüm is familiar with the Berg Propulsion organization, having led regional activities on behalf of Berg Propulsion between 2005 and 2013 Istanbul and Dubai. He went on to serve Reintjex Eurasia and then Schottel Turkey, building on his network of contacts with local designers, owners and yards.

Advanced Polymer Coatings (APC), based here, has elevated Captain Onur Yildirim to the newly created position of Marine Manager. In his new role, Captain Yildirim will manage the company’s marine coatings operation globally including sales, technical, and after-sales service, working closely with APC senior management. Prior to this role, he held a number of positions at APC, most recently from 2012 to 2018 as Global Technical Manager, overseeing the global technical team including after-sales service. From 2009 to 2012, Captain Yildirim was Technical Manager of Korea and Southeast Asia, responsible for organizing, training and heading the regional technical team, communicating with customers and managing the regional office.

The 19th Annual Career Days organized by the Istanbul Technical University Maritime Faculty Career Club hosted V. Ships today as the first guest. V. Ships was represented by the personnel managers Efe Sipahi , Volkan Imamoglu and Saygın Suner. Imamoglu and Sipahi started their speeches by introducing their company to the students. They emphasized that they give importance to professional education as a company and underlined that professionalism could be achieved with education.

The annual Career Days at Istanbul Technical University each year is scheduled to continue with its 19th organization from November 4-21, 2014. The 19th Career Days will begin with V-Ships Ship Management on November 4 and conclude with Yasa Shipping on November 21, including several other shipping companies in between, as listed below. With this organization, the students who study in the maritime faculty will be able to ask the shipping companies questions and will be given opportunities to work as a cadet for their long-term sea training in these companies.

Student teams from six maritime universities and schools have submitted proposals for the Second Annual Design Competition for Safe Affordable Ferries sponsored by the Worldwide Ferry Safety Association. A panel of five judges will review the submissions and will announce the winners by early Fall 2014. The top prize is $5,000 with second and third prizes also to be awarded. The student teams were asked to submit a design for a ferry to transport up to 200 passengers and ro-ro cargo between Lae and Kavieng in Papua New Guinea (with several intermediate stops), a distance of 350 nautical miles.

Today the results of the World Ferry Safety Association international student design competition for a Safe Affordable Ferry were announced. The goal of the design competition is to elicit new approaches for ferry design in the developing world as well as to encourage designers to enter this arena, for which there is a need and an emerging market. Challenges for the next decade in port and maritime research and development (R&D) and technology will be the focus of the 2nd International Conference on Port and Maritime R&D and Technology (ICPMRDT), to be held from 10-12 September 2003 at the Pan Pacific Hotel, Singapore. Five main sessions, which would be based on the theme "Port and Maritime R&D and Technology", will be featured at the 3-day conference. They are Port Development, Management and Operations; Coastal/Hydraulics Engineering; Marine Environment; Innovative Ship Designs and Operations; and Navigation and Maritime Training.
