Over 100 graduate out of I.T.S. “Fondazione G. Caboto”

I.T.S. “Fondazione G. Caboto” continues its incredible growth, counting over 100 graduates following the ceremony held on Friday, February 17th, for the 41 young students who achieved their diplomas in December 2016. This historical milestone confirmed the winning formula of the “I.T.S.” tertiary education model and the Caboto institute in particular, which brings the world of education closer to the labour market and guarantees employment. 50 Students Selected by Italian Ship-Owners

23 letters of employment delivered to new graduates in the presence of the Institutions of the School. Eleven Italian shipping companies “christened” the courses at the I.T.S. Fondazione “G. Caboto” (Caboto Foundation), an Institute of Advanced Technology, addressed to 50 students who will be recruited and taken aboard their ships once having completed the two-year training period, during which they will already have the opportunity to sail the seas worldwide as part of their education.

Evergreen Line's Ital Lunare to Make Maiden Call in Boston

As part of the new service linking North Asia and the U. S. East Coast (NUE2), Evergreen Line's containership Ital Lunare will make the first ever direct call into the Port of Boston for the ocean carrier on August 20 as part of the CKYH partner agreement. The weekly service also calls at the U. S. ports of New York, Norfolk and travels through the Panama Canal making calls at the Asian ports of Qingdao, Shanghai and Ningbo. The Evergreen Line ship has a 5,086-TEU capacity and was built in 2007. The vessel is part of Evergreen Line's worldwide fleet and sailed for Evergreen Line's sister company, Italia Marittima, in its earlier days.

Evergreen Holds Naming Ceremony for New Ship

Evergreen Group held the naming ceremony for Ever Loading, the sixth of its L-type vessels to be built by CSBC Corporation in Taiwan. The ceremony took place at CSBC's Kaohsiung shipyard and was officiated by Bronson Hsieh, Evergreen Group's Second Vice Group Chairman. The official rope-cutting of the new 8,508 TEU vessel was performed by Michelle Nardulli, a member of the Board of Directors of Italia Marittima, Evergreen's Italian subsidiary. Hsieh said in his speech that the vessel's name symbolizes Evergreen Line's target for continued business success.

Rickmers Maritime Q1 2014 Profit Slips a Little YoY

Container ship owners & charterers out Rickmers Maritime describe a stable set of results in the first quarter of 2014. Charter revenue decreased slightly by 4% from the US$35.5 million reported for the first quarter ended 31 March 2013 to US$33.9 million, largely due to the redelivery of two vessels during the period. In the lead up to their new charters to Maersk Line, the two vessels, Henry Rickmers (formerly Ital Fastosa) and Richard Rickmers (formerly Ital Festosa) spent 19.7 days and 31.3 days respectively as at 31, March 2014 for preparation and positioning. In addition, the fleet incurred a total of 31.1 days of unscheduled off-hire, with Kaethe C. Rickmers incurring 20.0 days of off-hire due to engine problems. As a result, fleet utilisation for 1Q2014 fell to 94.3%.

Rickmers Charter Out Two Panamax Container Ships

Rickmers Maritime, inform it has chartered out to Maersk Line the container ships 'Henry Rickmers' (formerly 'Ital Fastosa') and 'Richard Rickmers' (formerly 'Ital Festosa'), each of them 3,450 TEU panamax-size container ships. Henry Rickmers will be delivered to Maersk Line this week and Richard Rickmers two weeks later; they have each been chartered for an initial minimum period of 12 months, up to a maximum of 24 months. The two vessels will be chartered at a floating rate based on an index agreed upon by both Maersk Line and RTM.

Evergreen Line boosts Greece-Turkey Service

Evergreen Line is to upgrade its Greece-Turkey (GTS) service – currently linking its hub in Taranto, Italy with Piraeus and Thessaloniki in Greece, and Haydarpasa and Gemlik in Turkey – to create two weekly services deploying a combined three vessels. At the end of May the existing two-vessel service will become the GT1 and GT2 services, deploying one and two vessels respectively, providing customers with greater capacity, wider port coverage and improved schedule integrity. The weekly GT1 service, deploying the Italia Marittima-chartered 698 TEU Agilitas, will have the following port rotation: Taranto - Piraeus - Izmir - Taranto. The first eastbound sailing is scheduled to depart Taranto, Italy on 26 May. Westbound, the first sailing is due to depart Piraeus, Greece on 28 May.

They are all independent companies and will continue to act as shipowners and operators. Beginning May 1, the four carriers will issue a unified bill of lading title as Evergreen Line. The Evergreen Line Committee is made up of management representatives of the four carriers.

AUX Service to Provide Link from China to New York

Italia Marittima has upgraded its AUX transpacific service linking China with the US East Coast via the Panama Canal to provide shippers with a direct call at New York. The revised service gives customers more competitive transit times, thanks to the deployment of faster vessels, which will provide a 56-day rotation instead of the current 63, while capacity will increase substantially with eight vessels of 4,000 to 4,500 TEU replacing the nine vessels of approximately 2,800 TEU currently serving the route. The AUX service also maintains calls at Colon Container Terminal (CCT) in Panama, providing connections to the Evergreen Group’s extensive Caribbean feeder network.

ZIM Introduced Fourth Service

With the first call of container vessel Marseille Star at the HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai on August 22 at the Port of in Hamburg, ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. has started its fourth service to the USA. The service is being offered together with Italia Marittima, formerly Lloyd Triestino. The ports of Antwerp, Hamburg, Liverpool, New York and Savannah will be called weekly. For the new service four ships of 1900 to 2000 TEU are being used. They call at Northern European and American ports in a weekly rhythm. • from Hamburg by transhipment via Bremerhaven to the US Gulf Ports by transhipment via Kingston. Thus, at present ZIM offers up to three daily departures from Northern Europe to the USA.

ITS to Upgrade Mediterranean –U.S. East Coast Service

Italia Marittima SpA (ITS) is set to upgrade its Mediterranean – U.S. East Coast (MUS) service in a two-stage process that will see larger and faster ships serving the trade. Direct calls will be offered in Turkey while two Taranto calls will provide a connection with Italia’s Med feeder network. Six vessels, each with a capacity of approximately 2,500 TEU, will replace the present 1,800 TEU vessel fleet. Italia will provide two ships, Ital Oceano and Stadt Wismar, while partners CMA CGM and Gold Star Line are supplying the other four vessels. August will see the addition to the MUS schedule of the Italian hub port of Taranto while Barcelona will replace Valencia as the service’s Spanish call.

Hatsu Completes Latest Phase of Expansion

Hatsu Marine Ltd., has added two more post-Panamax container vessels, the Hatsu Crystal and Hatsu Smile, to its worldwide fleet. The 8,063 TEU C-type vessel Hatsu Crystal has been phased into the Evergreen Group’s CEM service where slots are allocated between Evergreen Marine Corp., Italia Marittima and Hatsu. The CEM service links China with North Europe and the Mediterranean, and is now served by an identical fleet of C-type vessels, four provided by Evergreen Marine and two each from Hatsu and Italia Marittima. The Hatsu Crystal is on long-term charter by Hatsu from the German shipowner Conti Reederei. The 7,024 TEU S-type vessel Hatsu Smile has entered service on Hatsu’s WAE route, a pendulum service linking the West Coast of North America, Asia and North Europe.

Italia Marittima adds to Shortsea Services

Italia Marittima is to launch a new service linking its Mediterranean hub, Taranto Container Terminal, with Algiers. The so-called ALS service is expected to commence on 9 May. A chartered vessel of 369TEU will offer sailings every nine days. In addition to providing a feeder link with the Evergreen Group’s global services, Italia Marittima will also be offering a regional service linking Algiers with Italy. Italia Marittima already operates three feeder services based on Taranto, namely the Tunis - Malta Service (TMS), the Greece - Turkey Service (GTS) and the Intra-Mediterranean Service (IMS). As its name suggests, the TMS service links Taranto with Tunis and with the Marsaxlokk container terminal in Malta.

Evergreen Launches Another Asia/US Service

Following congestion on the US West Coast towards the end of 2004, the pressure has been on carriers to launch additional services via the Panama Canal. The Evergreen Group has responded to this challenge by introducing new services of its own and complementing these with slot charter arrangements with other carriers. Together with Cosco Container Lines (Coscon), Evergreen Marine Corporation (EMC) is launching a new service linking China with the southern states of the US. Designated the CUE service, it will link the ports of Shanghai, Yantian and Hong Kong with Evergreen’s Panamanian hub terminal, Colon Container Terminal (CCT), Savannah and Miami.

Italia Marittima SpA Introduced

P L Maneschi, Chairman of Lloyd Triestino di Navigazione SpA, has announced that with effect from 1March 1, the name of the shipping company will be changed to Italia Marittima SpA and will be known by the acronym ITS. Mr Maneschi said the new name Italia Marittima SpA reflects the company's ambitions to strengthen its Italian national identity worldwide whilst recognising almost 170 years' presence of Lloyd Triestino in the international shipping market. At the time the shipping company was established, on 2 August 1836 , Trieste and the port were part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and the original name of the company was Oesterreicher Lloyd. On 3 January 1919 , shortly after World War I, the name changed to Lloyd Triestino.

Italia Marittima and Zim to Launch a New Service

Italia Marittima SpA (ITS) and Zim will launch a new weekly transatlantic service early August 2006. Designated the North Europe – US East Coast (NEC) service, it will link the North European ports of Antwerp, Hamburg and Liverpool with New York, Norfolk and Savannah. The new service will deploy four ships, each with a loading capacity of approximately 1,800 TEU. ITS will provide two ships, while Zim will contribute the other two ships. Antwerp – Hamburg – Liverpool – New York – Norfolk – Savannah. According to ITS, the NEC service will complement its slot allocation on the NUE service, an Evergreen-operated pendulum service linking North Europe, North America and Asia via the Panama Canal.
