Stradling Joins Furuno USA

Marine electronics company Furuno USA announced it recently hired Andrew Stradling as technical applications manager.Based in Seattle, Stradling will work alongside longtime Furuno USA representatives Alan Terry and Jon Closson for the overall promotion and sales of Furuno commercial fishery solutions in the Americas. In addition to managing Furuno’s specialty hydroacoustics product line, Stradling will contribute to the training of Furuno personnel, Furuno USA dealer personnel, and customers alike.

Busan Port Endeavors to Attract Shipping Alliances

Busan Port Authority carried out marketing activities to attract T/S cargo from three global major shipping alliances through visiting their Asian Pacific regional headquarters. The three global alliances, 2M(Maersk, MSC), OCEAN (CMA·CGM, COSCO, Evergreen, OOCL), THE(Hapag-Loyd, Yang-Ming, ONE), calling at Busan Port account for 80percent of global cargo volume. Busan Port handled 71 percent(7.28 million TEU) of their T/S cargo and it played a significant role in achieving 20 million TEU. BPA will inform its plans including revised incentive schemes, Busan New Port dredging construction completion, removing To-do islet, and ITT to alliances. It will also try to resolve their difficulties and meet demands.

JNPT's Cargo Traffic Grows by 6.26%

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India's largest container port, further improved its performance in the first six months of the current financial year by recording a 6.26 per cent growth in container cargo in terms of TEUs (5.57% in terms of tonnage) by handling 2.4 million TEUs as compared to 2.26 million TUEs in the corresponding period of the previous year. Among the four terminals under JNPT, APM Terminal handled 9.90 lakh TEUSs, up 11.6per cent, while DP World too handled higher cargo at 6.25 lakh TEUs as compared to 5.94 lakh TEUs in the comparative period of the last year. JNPCT increased its share modestly at 7.87 lakh TEUs from the last year’s level of 7.80 lakh TEUs. Total liquid cargo handled rose by 12 per cent at 36.03 lakh tonnes as compared to 32.14 lakh tonnes.

Trelleborg’s marine systems operation has passed a milestone with the shipment of its 600th SeaTechnik Ship Shore Link (SSL) system for the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Industry. Port of Busan aims to handle 13 million TEU of trans-shipment cargo by 2020 ranking it number two in the world. Busan Port Unveils Expansion Plans

The Korean government announced plans to add a further 15 berths to its flagship Busan New Port in the south of the country to increase container capacity by 15.8 million TEU. The new facilities will be a mix of container terminals, feeder terminals and multipurpose terminals and work will begin in stages based on actual cargo demand and under the coordination of central government. Development began at Busan New Port in 1994, and today it operates 22 berths with an additional eight currently under construction. Total container throughput at Busan Port Authority (BPA) reached 18.68 million in 2014 with the New Port accounting for 64% or 11.93 million TEU.

Orlando Ashford is President, Holland America Line

Holland America Line announced today that effective Dec. 1 Orlando Ashford will join the company as president to lead the award-winning cruise line's brand and business, including its fleet of 15 premium vessels carrying approximately 850,000 guests annually to all seven continents. LNG on the Rise

As the world’s economies search for sustainable, reliable, renewable energy sources, they are also more closely examining a range of fossil fuels to find the cleanest, least harmful of those to cut carbon emissions and improve air quality in the process. In the drive to cut carbon emissions, interest in liquefied natural gas (LNG) is growing. LNG is being looked at not only as fuel for generating electricity and heat, but also as a fuel for powering marine vessels, road vehicles and trains. With the recent development of abundant shale gas deposits in the United States, the LNG market is really set to take off. The common method for transporting natural gas worldwide is to liquefy it so it takes up less volume and can be transported in specialized LNG carrier vessels.

Northrop Grumman Wins $69m Deal for Topside Program Support

Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC) won a follow-on and additional task order contracts totaling $69m from the U.S. Navy's Office of Naval Research (ONR) for the Navy's Integrated Topside (InTop) program. InTop is an innovative, scalable suite of electronic warfare, information operations and line-of-sight communications hardware and software for use on naval surface platforms. McGahn President and COO of AMSC

Panama Canal Authority FY2009 Q3

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) released third quarter (Q3) operational metrics for fiscal year 2009. In Q3, Canal Waters Time (CWT), the average time it takes a vessel to transit the Canal, including waiting time for passage, decreased significantly. Additionally, total transits and net tonnage decreased slightly. These metrics are based on operations from April through June 2009, the third quarter of the ACP's 2009 fiscal year, and are compared with Q3 of fiscal year 2008. Average CWT decreased 47.9 percent – to 19.96 hours from 38.31 hours. CWT for booked vessels (those ships holding reservations) decreased 26.5 percent – to 14.53 hours from 19.77 hours. In Transit Time (ITT) also decreased 26.6 percent – to 9.55 hours from 13.02 hours.

FAST Program Achieves Successful Critical Design Review

Atlas Elektronik UK, with its Atlas-QED consortium partners ITT Corporation (formerly EDO Corporation) and QinetiQ, has achieved a successful Critical Design Review of a mine counter measures (MCM) flexible agile sweeping technology (FAST) technology readiness demonstrator (TRD), in line with the main program schedule. The demonstrator, which is being supplied under contract, will ultimately enable the MoD to put a combined influence sweep (CIS) replacement into service using FAST Technology. This latest milestone follows an Interim Design Review in September 2007. With the build phase well underway, the program remains on track to achieve the target of readiness for formal trials later this year.

ITT Industries Appoints New President, Specialty Products

ITT Industries, Inc. has appointed Brenda L. Reichelderfer as president of the company's Specialty Products businesses. A 19-year ITT veteran, Reichelderfer was most recently president of the company's Flow Control group, which is part of the Specialty Products segment that is a group of businesses producing a variety of engineered products, including valves and switches for industrial and aerospace applications and products for the marine and leisure markets. Reichelderfer's promotion follows the announced retirement of Richard J. M. Hamilton, who most recently led the Specialty Products segment. Hamilton, who has been with the company since 1971, will remain through the end of the year to assist in Reichelderfer's transition.

Osprey Successful at Sea

The V-22 Integrated Test Team (ITT) completed a detachment in USS Bataan (LHD 5) in November, the second at-sea period for the Osprey program this year. During the 11 days of the Phase IV shipboard suitability testing, the ITT conducted deck-landing qualifications for five V-22 pilots, including one from Marine Tiltrotor Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron (VMX) 22, the new test and evaluation squadron based at Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C. ITT completed test points necessary to expand the Osprey’s wind-over-deck envelope, and measured the effects of hovering H-53 and H-46 helicopters on a V-22 on deck behind them. ITT engineers were pleased with the test results.

Response Marine Delivers Fire/Rescue Boat

The latest Response FR-175 fire/rescue boat was delivered to Benwood, West Virginia Fire Department for use on the Ohio River. The FR-175 was developed over the last few years to provide maximum fire/rescue capabilities in a small, easily managed boat. Firefighting capabilities are based around the Hale 550 gpm pump, with independent 2.5-in. handline and monitor discharges. Dive rescue capabilities include a 36-in. side dive door, full length rescue rails, and space for two litters in addition to the normal crew of three. The boat measures 17.5 ft. long, with a 7.5 ft. beam and a one ft. draft. It features an Akron Brass fire monitor; ITT Jabsco deck lights; Whelen strobes and siren; and a Motorola fire radio.
