DP World Chairman Meets Georgian PM

DP World Group Chairman and CEO, and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Freezones Corporation, HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem has met with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, at the Annual Investment Meeting in Dubai to explore possible future opportunities for economic co-operation. During the meeting, which was also attended by DP World Vice Chairman Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah and senior company officials, HE Bin Sulayem suggested diverse solutions for Georgia’s trade and logistics development plans that would be cost effective and up-to-date with the latest industry trends. Both parties agreed that a DP World research team should visit the country to evaluate the potential for the possible construction of a marine terminal…

Largest DP World Delegation for Milan Expo

In the largest delegation to date, DP World has recently sent, its very own employees to live, experience and become part of Milan Expo 2015. DP World’s delegation represented the entire company, from leaders and directors to customs specialists and ground staff; a diverse mix of backgrounds which mirror the vibrant and global city of Dubai. The mission of this delegation was to grasp the visitors’ experience at the Milan Expo 2015 and contribute to feeding the Expo 2020 Bureau with an informed perspective. Key visitors included the Chairman of DP World, HE Sultan Bin Sulayem, DP World Vice Chairman, Jamal Majid bin Thaniah, Group CEO Mohammed Sharaf, Chief Operating Officer, Anil Wats and other senior DP World officials.

Indonesian President Widodo Visits Jebel Ali Port

The President of Indonesia, HE Joko Widodo, today visited DP World flagship Jebel Ali Port where he was received by Chairman HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem and toured the leading integrated port and free zone facility that supports and drives the growth of Dubai and the wider region of some two billion people. Jebel Ali Port Wins Top Industry Award

DP World’s flagship Jebel Ali Port has been recognized for excellence in container terminal operations at the first ever Navis Inspire Awards 2015. HE Sultan Ahmad Bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World said the industry prize underlined the global marine terminal operator’s customer centric approach, innovation, process excellence and commitment of its employees. Bin Sulayem’s comments were made in a special event held in Dubai to celebrate the award and to congratulate DP World’s UAE Region team for the achievement.

DP World to Build Third London Gateway Container Berth

DP World London Gateway plans to move forward with a third berth at the UK’s new deep-sea hub port, which will increase deep-sea access for ships carrying UK imports and exports. Berth Three will enable the use of an additional 400 meters of quay length with a dredged depth of 17 meters alongside, to handle the largest containerships. New birth will become operational in late 2016. It has also developed technology to ensure the port remains open in bad weather. The location of the DP World London Gateway Port, which has 16 million consumers within 50 miles, enables imports to enter the UK closer to where the goods will be consumed. London Gateway Logistics Park Breaks Ground

A ground-breaking ceremony was held at DP World’s London Gateway Logistics Park to mark the start of construction on a 316,000 square foot distribution facility. The building is being developed speculatively as an equal joint venture between DP World, one of the world’s largest port operators, and Prologis, the global leader in industrial real estate. The ceremony took place on Friday, February 6 and was attended by Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Non-Executive Director and Vice Chairman for DP World, Mohammed Sharaf, DP World Group Chief Executive, and Hamid R.

DP World Receives 1st Scheduled Vessel at New Terminal

DP World has yesterday welcomed the first scheduled vessel to call at its new Container Terminal 3 in Jebel Ali, Dubai, as it gears up to serve customers at the state-of-the-art facility. The ‘APL Phoenix’ was welcomed by DP World Chairman, His Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Vice Chairman HE Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Group CEO Mohammed Sharaf, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, UAE Region, Mohammed Al Muallem, and Prabhu G.K.N., Head of Operations and Network Management, Middle East and Africa Region at APL, and Capt Moses Dogbeda Kodzitse, Master of APL Phoenix, together with senior representatives of other DP World customers.

London Gateway Terminal: First Scheduled Arrival

Britain’s new global shipping port welcomes its first scheduled vessel, the ‘MOL Caledon’ from South Africa. After more than a decade of planning and construction across three square miles of development, DP World London Gateway deep-sea port is now open & operational. The ‘MOL Caledon’ was welcomed by DP World Chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Vice Chairman Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Group CEO Mohammed Sharaf, Chairman of MOL Liner Junichiro Ikeda, and shipper representatives JFH Hillebrand MD David Mawer and Chingford Fruit MD Gavin McNally, together with other senior executives.

Jebel Ali New Terminal Extension Opened, Up & Running

DP World Chairman welcomes mega-vessel to Jebel Ali port's new 1 million TEU Terminal 2 expansion. HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World, officially opened the new extension to Container Terminal 2 (T2) at flagship Jebel Ali Port, welcoming one of the largest container ships afloat, the MSC La Spezia. A red carpet welcome was given to the 366-metre long vessel, which has 14,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent container units) capacity. The expansion adds 1 million TEU to take capacity at Jebel Ali Port to 15 million TEU, extending the T2 quay wall by 400 metres to 3,000 metres.

Dubai's Ports Container Throughput Milestone

DP World celebrates the 100 millionth container to pass through DP World, UAE Region terminals in ten years. The 100 million TEU record was achieved between January 2003 and January 2013 and covers all container boxes handled in both Mina Rashid and Jebel Ali Port. DP World, UAE Region’s annual container throughput increased more than 150% over the decade, from around five million TEU in 2003 to 13.3 million TEU in 2012. In all, the two container ports have handled 135 million TEU since the opening of Jebel Ali Port in 1979, around 75% of it since 2003. DP World Orders Operating System for Jebel Ali Terminal

CyberLogitec, a Korea-based IT company to provide its OPUS Terminal Operating System (TOS) for Terminal 3, at the expanding port complex. OPUS TOS has modules to support the sophisticated operational requirements of the new terminal as well as interfaces to other existing systems at the port to provide seamless services to customers. Container Terminal 3, with a quay length of 1,860 metres, a draft of 17 metres, and a 70 hectare storage yard, will be equipped with 19 Ship To Shore (STS) quay cranes and 50 Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes.

New Middle East Container Terminal Crane Orders

DP World orders cranes for its new Jebel Ali container terminal from international and local suppliers. DP World, UAE Region signs agreements with local and international companies for the supply of 19 Ship To Shore (STS) quay cranes and 50 Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes for its 4 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) capacity Terminal 3 development at the flagship Jebel Ali Port. The new container terminal will be 1,860 metres long, with a depth of 17 metres to handle multiple next generation container liners simultaneously, and a 70 hectare yard.

DPW Looks Ahead to Expansion Drive

According to reports, DP World, on target to achieve 40 percent growth in four years, will spend up to $3b to boost container traffic at the 52 port terminals it currently operates around the globe. Announcing the formal launch of Dubai World — the holding group comprising a collection of companies, including P&F World, the parent company of DP World — Sulayem said the diversified entity, which has seen the size and spread of business growing over the past couple of years, is geared to tap further huge potential for growth. Sulayem said DP World and its adviser Deutsche Bank were evaluating various offers for the six US terminals it acquired as part of the $6.8 billion take-over of Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company in February.

COSTA Ships Debut in Dubai

Starting from December 2006 the Italian Costa Crociere SpA, which operates the brands AIDA Cruises and Costa Crociere, will be offering cruises with departures from Dubai (United Arab Emirates). The official announcement was made during a series of official meetings, set to take place in Dubai on February 1 and 2, 2006, between a delegation from Costa Crociere – headed by Costa Crociere SpA Chairman & CEO Pier Luigi Foschi, Costa Crociere President Gianni Onorato, and AIDA Cruises SVP Operations Michael Ungerer – and political and administrative leaders from the United Arab Emirates, Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Deputy Chairman of DP World, and Khalid bin Sulayem, Director General of the DTCM (Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing).
