Lateral Naval Architects Launched
UK-based BMT Nigel Gee and Dutch- based superyacht builder Oceanco have signed a strategic partnership for the formation of a new naval architecture and engineering company—Lateral Naval Architects Ltd. Lateral will provide high quality naval architecture and engineering services to the industry as well as collaborating with the shipyard’s own engineering team and network of co-makers and subcontractors. BMT Nigel Gee To Launch Project L3 at Monaco Yacht Show
BMT Nigel Gee, a subsidiary of the BMT Group, will be launching its latest innovative design, ‘Project L3’ at the Monaco Yacht Show. Building on Nigel Gee’s heritage in the development of specialised platforms, married with Rob McPherson’s appetite for styling something a little bit different to the norm, this bold concept is maintaining the exceptional standard that has come to be expected from BMT concept design collaborations. The design is based around delivering an extreme of high speed and high volume, for which BMT’s semi-SWATH catamaran is ideal. On a length overall of 85m the design provides over 4200 GT, a figure more akin to a 100-110m monohull.
The Macondo Spill Trial
Offshore U.S. Gulf energy operators have already paid a steep price; more pain could come. Drilling in the Gulf of Mexico is now close to levels seen before the April 2010 Macondo spill that took 11 lives and caused the nation’s worst offshore oil spill. Ship Registry Passenger Yacht Code Collaboration
BMT Nigel Gee collaborates with Cayman Island Shipping Registry to share industry knowledge and insight. BMT Nigel Gee, a subsidiary of BMT Group, is set to launch its latest technical paper in collaboration with the Cayman Island Shipping Registry (CISR). Developed to provide insight for a wide range of industry stakeholders, the paper examines aspects of the 2010 Passenger Yacht Code (PYC) which aims to provide a Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) equivalent code for yachts wishing to carry up to 36 passengers. Prior to the development and publishing of this code, yachts wishing to carry more than 12 passengers were subject to full SOLAS and Loadline compliance with associated cost and design complexity.
