Where Else but Anchorage for Navy LPD Commissioning?

The Navy is to commission amphibious transport dock ship 'USS Anchorage' in namesake port city of Anchorage, Alaska, 4, May 2013. Adm. Cecil Haney, commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, will deliver the ceremony's keynote address. Annette Conway, wife of retired Gen. James T. Conway, the 34th commandant of the Marine Corps, is serving as the ship's sponsor. "Like the previous USS Anchorage, I am confident LPD 23 and her crew will represent the United States with distinction around the world for many decades to come," said Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus.

ASNE Naval Logistics Symposium 2009

In cooperation with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard, the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) will present Naval Logistics Symposium 2009—Logistics in Support of the Joint Maritime Strategy in Arlington, Virginia, on July 20-22 2009. CNO Testifies Before HASC on Global Maritime Strategy

During a two-hour session before the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) Dec. Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Gary Roughead, Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James T. Conway and Commandant of the Coast Guard Adm. Thad W. Allen began the session by first thanking Congress and the nation for their support. They also stressed that together the nation's sea services will focus on remaining a balanced maritime force while promoting greater collective security, stability and trust. "That all three maritime Service chiefs have signed this strategy and appear before the committee today is a testament to our commitment to integrating our efforts in protecting our nation's vital interests," Roughead testified.

Service Chiefs to Present Strategy for New Maritime Era

Adm. Gary Roughead, Chief of Naval Operations, Gen. James T. Conway, Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, and Adm. Thad W. Allen, Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, will present the new Maritime Strategy known as “A Cooperative Strategy for 21st Century Seapower” at the International Seapower Symposium at the Naval War College on Oct. 17. The presentation will be carried live on the Pentagon Channel and streamed live on Navy.mil, beginning at 8:45 a.m. EDT. The strategy will be available for download on www.navy.mil at 9 a.m. EDT.

Commandant Visits 26th MEU, USS Bataan

Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James T. Conway speaks with Marines and Sailors from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) aboard the multi-purpose amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5). Bataan left her homeport of Norfolk, Va., Jan. 4 on a regularly scheduled deployment as the flagship for the Bataan Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG). Bataan ESG is conducting Maritime Security Operations (MSO) which help set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment, as well as complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations.
