For the third time in a row Jan de Nul Dredging chooses for No Limit Ships Shipyards. After first having bought two survey vessels, they now opted for a No Limit 1640 Crewtender with thirteen passenger seats. For the next five years the vessel is expected to be deployed for various projects in European waters and will be sailing under Belgian flag. At the customer’s request the vessel will be constructed in such a way that it will need only minor adjustments at a later stage to make it suitable as a survey vessel.

Dredging company, Jan De Nul, has had 11 Damen Stan Tugs join its fleet in the last few years. In 2008, Jan De Nul placed an order for five additional Stan Tugs after another major order in 2007 when the Belgian firm ordered six Stan Tugs, as well as four Damen Fast Crew Suppliers. To be delivered over a period of 18 months, the five latest vessels have all been built at Albwardy Marine Engineering in Dubai, one of Damen’s joint venture shipyards in the Middle East. Exmar has applied to MBZ, the Zeebrugge Port Authority, for a domain concession for the construction of a discharging and ship-to-ship transfer installation for LNG and high pressure natural gas in the Port of Zeebrugge (Belgium). Zeebrugge. Belgian and European gas markets, EXMAR wishes to build a new discharging and ship-to-ship transfer infrastructure in the Port of Zeebrugge. This infrastructure will be fully compatible with that already existing and will further strengthen the position Belgium commands as a supply and transit country for natural gas in Europe. For the construction and development of the new infrastructure, EXMAR is working closely together with such companies as Ondernemingen Jan De Nul (dredging), Praxair, Jacobs Engineering, ERM and ECOLAS.

The Dutch Parliament voted in favor of the construction of Maasvlakte 2, the new port district of Rotterdam. This gives the green light to the next phase: in 2007 a number of spatial planning and licensing procedures must be completed before actual construction can get underway in 2008. A parliamentary majority also supported the proposal to construct the outer contour of Maasvlakte 2 in a single operation. This is an attractive option, both for environmental and financial reasons. It had been proposed earlier moving these sea defenses further out to sea in phases, in response to the need for industrial space. However, no-one in Rotterdam is concerned about market demand for space, so that the construction of the definitive sea defenses in a single operation is justified.
