ABS is Japan's First Foreign RO for Maritime Labor Inspection

ABS has been selected by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) as Japanā€™s first foreign Recognized Organization (RO) for maritime labor inspection. Maritime Labor Convention comprises 16 articles, containing general provisions, which consists of five Titles that outline specific provisions grouped by standard. They include minimum requirements for seafarers to work on a ship; conditions of employment; accommodation, recreational facilities, food and catering; health protection, medical care, welfare and social security protection; and compliance and enforcement of ILO Maritime Labor Convention, 2006 (MLC), ratified in August 2013.

Russia-Japan Shipbuilding and Repair Seminar

The fourth Russian-Japanese seminar ā€˜Š”ooperation in shipbuilding and ship repairā€™ is to take place September 4-5, 2014. For the first time, the annual event is to be held in St. Petersburg - the maritime capital of Russia . The event is being organized by Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) and the Japan Ship Machinery & Equipment Association (JSMEA). DNV Authorized to Survey Japanese-flagged Vessels

Classification society DNV has been designated as a 'Recognized Organization' by the Japanese government. A year ago Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) was similarly designated as a 'Recognised Organisation' by the Norwegian government and was granted delegated responsibility for statutory surveys and permission to issue statutory certificates. The agreement authorized ClassNK to examine compliance to various treaties of Norwegian-flagged vessels and issue certificates for ships registered under its flag. The ceremony was held at the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Director General of the Maritime Bureau, Mr Masato Mori presented the official certificate of registration to Henrik O. Madsen, CEO of the DNV Group.
