Maritime Industry Council Established in Dubai
Dubai Council for Marine and Maritime Industries, the umbrella industry body representing the marine and relevant industry, had its first introductory member’s meeting. The meeting sought to introduce the members, lay the broad framework for future operations, brainstorming on pressing industry issues and strengthen the foundation for meaningful networking among industry partners. WISTA UAE Group DP World Event
WISTA (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association) UAE Chapter announce forthcoming meeting, port tour. WISTA is an international organisation for women in management positions involved in maritime transportation business and related trades. It regularly organises events for its members in venues not open to the public; on a ship, in an engine room, in a port or even a drydock with great speakers and networking opportunities for the ladies in the shipping community. This time the President of WISTA UAE, Mrs. Jasamin Fichte has collaborated with DP World and P&O Maritime to organise a rather large event for its members taking place at DP World on Sunday, 18 November, 2012.
WISTA Presidents Creates Change
The Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) meeting of the National WISTA Association Presidents held in Paris on October 3rd provided an opportunity to examine the goals of the Association, and add to its leadership. Chaired by WISTA President Karin Orsel, the all day event featured leadership roundtable discussions resulting in agreements to amend the articles of association, examine the organizations objectives and mission statement, and to research the issue of human trafficking. This was also the forum for electing new Executive Committee members: Jasamin Fichte, Managing Partner of Fichte & Co and President of WISTA UAE; Katerina Stathopoulou, VP, Senior Manager of Investments & Finance Ltd.
Industry Leaders to Meet in Dubai
With a weakening dollar, predictions oil could hit $100 a barrel, and a boom in multi-billion dollar refinery construction, finance and shipping leaders will be meeting in Dubai this November to assess the impact on the regional and global maritime industries. The Middle East shipping industry is dominated by the tanker trade. Bookings for supertankers sailing from the Middle East to Asia account for 47% of global demand for the carriers, compared with shipments to the US and Caribbean, the second-biggest market, which accounts for 14% of demand. The balance of supply and demand, in the tanker sector in the Middle East, will be part of a special Charterers Forum that will take place during the Middle East Money & Ships 2007 conference, from 4-5 November, at Mina a'Salam, Madinat Jumeirah.
