DP World to Invest $500 in Jeddah Port Upgrade

The global port operator DP World has been awarded a 30-year Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) concession by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), for the management and development of the Jeddah South Container Terminal at the multi-purpose Jeddah Islamic Port.According to a press release from the UAE-based world leader in global supply chain solutions, under the agreement, DP World will invest up to $500 million to improve and modernize the Jeddah Islamic Port, including major infrastructure development to enable the Port to serve the ultra-large container carriers (ULCC’s), which are considered the world’s largest mega containerships.Established in 1976, the Jeddah Islamic Port is on the red sea and the largest port in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with annual volumes of over 6 million TEU’s.

DP World Jeddah Upgrades to Navis N4

Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, announced that DP World Jeddah has upgraded from Navis SPARCS to N4 3.5 terminal operating system (TOS). The implementation of the updated TOS is a move by the terminal to leverage the latest technology to meet continuous customer service demands and address the need for increasing operational support as incoming cargo volume rises. DP World operates the South Container Terminal (SCT) at Jeddah Islamic Port, a crucial link in the world’s busiest East-West trade routes through the Red Sea and catering to a rich domestic cargo base. The port is the main import destination for Saudi Arabia, handling 59 percent of its imports by sea and serving its main commercial centers.

High Winds Close Saudi Arabia's Jeddah port

The major port at Saudi Arabia's second largest city of Jeddah was closed on Tuesday due to bad weather, state-run Ekhbariya TV reported.   "Marine traffic was halted at Jeddah Islamic Port because of high winds and reduced visibility," the channel wrote in a newsflash.   Reporting by Noah Browning

RSGT Mulls Expansion, Celebrates the Arrival of Al-Nefud

'World's Greenest Containership' Calls Red Sea Gateway

Saudi-Indian Naval Ties Renewed

Reviving glorious memories of historic bonds and trade relations between Saudi Arabia and India that date back to the time of Prophet Muhammad  and beyond, an Indian sailing ship docked at Jeddah Islamic Port, reports Saudi Gazette. Jeddah Port Welcomes LHD 7 USS Iwo Jima

Around 2,100 sailors, US Marine Corps, US Navy commanders and other onboard crew members participated along with representatives from the Royal Saudi Navy and the Foreign Affairs Ministry in the official reception of American amphibious assault ship “USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7),” which docked at Jeddah Islamic Port on Tuesday. US Consul General Thomas Duffy received the onboard crew led by commanding officer of the USS Iwo Jima Capt. Grady Banister over a well-attended aboard banquet. According to Banister, the purpose of the maritime visit to Saudi Arabia was to carry out naval training with members of the Royal Saudi Navy, which is part of the US naval cooperative relationship with regional partners.

Giant Containership CSCL Star Maiden Red Sea Call

Newly opened Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT), Jeddah Islamic Port’s flagship terminal, received the world’s largest containership vessel CSCL Star on its first Red Sea call on Tuesday (21st June 2011). With a declared capacity of 14,100 TEU, the CSCL STAR is one of the world’s largest container ships. Built by Samsung Heavy Industries, and delivered in January 2011, it has a length of 366 metres, and a width of 51.2 metres, or 20 rows of containers across the deck. Saudi Seaports Witness 10% Increase In Cargo To Q3 2010

Recognising the vital role of the region’s ports in providing trade links between the Far East, Asia, Europe and the US, international shipping and cargo experts are set to gather in Abu Dhabi on 28-30 March, for the World Ports and Trade Summit 2011. Multi-billion dollar investment in port operations across the Middle East is again surging forward in the post-recessionary environment, including Saudi Arabia, where total port throughput, increased almost 10% for the twelve months to the end of Q3 2010, according to figures released by the Saudi Ports Authority.

RSGT Starts Commercial Operations

The completion of the first phase of Jeddah Islamic Port's newest world-class container facility, Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT), was celebrated on 22 December 2009 with the arrival of UASC's Vessel Al Muttanabi. Located at the northern end of the Jeddah Islamic Port (JIP), work at the two billion Saudi Riyal (approx USD 510MM) Greenfield container-terminal, commenced in January 2008. The 1.8 million TEU, second-generation terminal constructed under a BOT agreement with the Saudi Port Authority, is due to be fully completed by Q3 2010.

OCSCL Secures Port Contract

Multiport member Oriental Commercial & Shipping Co Ltd. (OCSCL) has won a ten-year contract to operate the passenger terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port, Saudi Arabia. The contract includes all operational activities including the transportation of passengers to and from vessels. OCSCL serves the Saudi ports of Jeddah, Dammam, Dhuba, Gizan, Jubail, Rabigh, Ras Tanura, Riyadh and Yanbu.
