USCG Medevacs Man from Tanker 12 mi off Galveston
A Coast Guard boatcrew medevaced a 46-year-old man from an oil tanker in the Galveston Fairway Anchorage Wednesday evening. At approximately 3 p.m., Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a phone call from the captain of the 580-foot Jupiter Ace stating that a crewmember was coughing blood for unknown reasons. Watchstanders launched a boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Galveston aboard a 45-foot response boat along with two local paramedics. The boatcrew and a paramedic moved the man from the taker onto the response boat. "Normally the boatcrew would not have paramedics ride to the scene with them," said Petty Officer 1st class Jeff Linberg, duty watchstander at Sector Houston-Galveston.
Lake Charles Tugboat Engine Room Fire Extinguished
The Coast Guard informs that along with the Black Bayou Fire Department it has responded to a tugboat on fire near Lake Charles, Louisiana. At approximately 1:15 p.m., Tuesday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston Command Center received a report from the captain of the tug vessel Garyville, that there was a fire in the engine room. Watchstanders launched a boatcrew from Station Lake Charles to respond. The Black Bayou Fire Department arrived shortly after and the boatcrew transported the fire crew from shore to the tugboat. Chief Engineer Medevaced from Cargo Ship off Galveston
A U.S. Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew medevaced the chief engineer off a cargo ship, Monday, after he began experiencing stroke-like symptoms, 85 miles offshore of Galveston, Texas. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston Command Center received a notification relayed from the 892-foot cargo vessel Altair, at approximately 5:30 a.m., stating that the chief engineer, a 61-year-old man, suffering from stoke-like symptoms. Watchstanders dispatched an Air Station Houston crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter along with an aircrew from Aviation Training Center Mobile aboard an HC-144 Ocean Sentry to provide top cover and communications.
