UK Shipping Sector Risks Sinking Fortunes if Brexit Prevails

If Britain votes to leave the European Union, the country's shipping sector faces years of disruption as trade agreements get reworked and currency volatility leads to higher costs at a time when the industry is battling its worst global downturn. Shipping contributes some 10 billion pounds ($14.2 billion) annually to the UK economy and directly employs 240,000 people in multiple areas including maritime services such as ports, transportation, as well as ship broking and marine insurance.

China, UK Groups, Sign Up to Shipping Services Cooperation

The Chinese and British shipping industries are set to take their mutual cooperation to a higher level following the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) reports Xinhua. The MOU was signed by the Lord Mayor of London, Fiona Woolf; the Vice President of the Investment Committee at China Merchants Group, Yu Liming; the chairman of Maritime London Jeffrey Evans, and the chief executive of Maritime London Doug Barrow. Maritime UK Appoint Jeffrey Evans Chairman

Maritime London informs that its chairman, Jeffrey Evans, has also been appointed chairman of industry lobby group Maritime UK: he is managing director of gas at Clarksons as well as an Alderman of the City of London. Commenting on his new role, Mr Evans said: “I am delighted, honoured and excited to be taking over as Chairman of Maritime UK. In the past few years Maritime UK has grown from a fledgling coalition of maritime interests into a respected and influential industry lobby.
