IBIA Celebrates 23th Annual Dinner

The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has appointed three new members to its Management Board and one new member to the IBIA in Africa Board. The appointments were announced at the Association’s 23th annual dinner, which was held on February 8 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London. Heralding the beginning of International Petroleum week, the prestigious event attracted a record number of attendees, with over 1100 bunker industry professionals at the dinner, despite the gloomy state of the industry.

Marine Fuel Quality Improving -IBIA

The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) noted an improvement in bunker quality from across the marine fuels supply chain thanks in part to a campaign launched by the association. Addressing an audience of more than 1,000 marine fuel buyers, suppliers and traders at the association’s annual dinner in London last night, IBIA Chairman Jens Maul Jorgensen said that the early results for 2015 show that there has been a marked improvement in bunker fuel quality with 8% of samples found to be off-spec compared with 10% in 2014. IBIA Offers Industry Support in Wake of OW Bunker Collapse

The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has announced a series of measures to support companies and individuals impacted by last week’s collapse of OW Bunker. In Singapore, IBIA will be taking part in dialogue sessions led by the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to ensure continuing smooth bunker operations. IBIA stands ready to offer this service to other companies potentially impacted in European ports. The association is also offering professional career support services to those individuals who have lost their jobs. IBIA Chief Executive Peter Hall said, “This is an unprecedented occurrence and our thoughts are with the very large number of competent hardworking ex-employees now urgently in need of support and industry contact.

OW Bunker Reduces Global Claims to 0.9%

Internal quality standard helps company meet global target of reducing claims to below 1% and set new industry benchmark for best practice. OW Bunker has  announced that it has reduced global claims1 on physical products to 0.9% for Q1 2014. This is down from an average of 1.6% in 2013. The company set a target of reducing global claims to below 1% when it introduced its own Global Quality Standard (GQS) at the end of 2012 to ensure the quality of products supplied by its physical operations on a global basis.

IBIA Appoints Robin Meech Vice-Chairman

The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) says it has appointed Robin Meech as its new vice-chairman for a one year term of office. An independent and well respected bunker industry consultant, Robin Meech is a former bunker buyer and author of several books for the marine fuel sector. Meech replaces Jens Maul Jorgensen who became IBIA chairman on 1 April, 2014. Welcoming Robin Meech’s appointment IBIA chief executive Peter Hall said:

 “Robin Meech has been involved with IBIA for many years and always brings a knowledgeable commercial perspective to the association. IBIA adds that Robin Meech is managing director of Marine and Energy Consulting Ltd, an independent practice established in 2001 focusing on the marine sector with an emphasis on the transport of energy.

New Bunker Industry Chairman Focuses on Supply Quality

The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) informs of the appointment of Jens Maul Jorgensen as its Chairman for 2014/15. He replaces Simon Neo who has completed his one year term of office. IBIA say that Jens Maul Jorgensen is Director of Bunkers for German dry bulk shipowner, Oldendorff and has 24 years of shipping industry experience, now leading a team of six purchasers and 14 inspectors worldwide servicing 566 vessels. Jens Maul Jorgensen added:

 “Off-spec bunkers are a serious problem which the industry needs to get to grips with.

IBIA Urges Bunker Suppliers to Adopt ISO Fuel Specs

In a bid to improve bunker quality across the marine fuel supply chain, the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) informs that it has called on marine fuel suppliers to adopt the ISO 2010 specifications for bunkers. Despite having been introduced four years ago to improve bunker standards, it is estimated that only a quarter of bunker suppliers are currently supplying in accordance with the 2010 specifications. “ECO vessels are now entering the market equipped with engines which are more sensitive than vessels have ever had before.

OW Bunker Installs Coriolis Flow Meters

Company continues roll-out of measurement technology across global fleet to provide customers with accuracy in supply. OW Bunker  hasannounced that it has installed a Coriolis Flow Meter on one of its refueling barges in Rotterdam. OW Bunker is the first independent physical fuel distributor to use the technology when supplying customers in the region, as it looks to ensure increased accuracy in measuring the quantity of product delivered. The new technology will be subjected to a rigorous trial period before being offered as a standard feature to customers refueling in Rotterdam.

IBIA Appoints Board Members

The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) appointed Jens Maul Jørgensen of Oldendorff Carriers as its Vice-Chairman. He will therefore become Chairman in April 2014. Dilip Mody of Global Fuels & Lubricants has been reappointed Honorary Treasurer. The appointments were made at meeting of the association’s board in Istanbul this week. Welcoming the appointments IBIA chairman Simon Neo said, “I’m delighted to be supported in my role as IBIA chairman by Jens.
