MAN Expands Dual-fuel Methanol Agreement with CCS

MAN Energy Solutions and China Classification Society (CCS) signed a sub-agreement in line with the Strategic Framework Agreement (SFA) the two parties previously agreed in September 2023 in Beijing. The SFA, on ‘Decarbonization and Digitalization in the maritime industry’, is scheduled to last for five years.The new sub-agreement – the third such between the companies – covers MAN Energy Solutions’ new MAN L21/31DF-M (Dual-Fuel Methanol) GenSet designed at the company’s Danish site in Holeby.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Orders Four More Dual-Fuel Carrier Vessels

Wallenius Wilhelmsen, the world’s largest RoRo vessel operator, has declared options to build four additional next-generation Shaper Class pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) vessels. The 9,300 CEU methanol dual fuel vessels can utilize alternative fuel sources, such as methanol, upon delivery.They will also be ammonia-ready and able to be converted as soon as ammonia becomes available in a safe and secure way.These next generation vessels will play a key role in the introduction

ZIM Names Trio of LNG Containerships

The naming ceremonies of three new vessels joining ZIM’s fleet were held in Korea and China this week for ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, continuing ZIM’s widescale fleet renovation.The naming ceremony of Zim Mount Elbrus and Zim Mount Vinson, the final additions to the series of ten 15,000 TEUs advanced LNG vessels, took place at the SHI Geoje shipyard in Korea. These vessels, showcasing state-of-the-art LNG technology, were named in a traditional manner by their respective godmothers, Mrs. Hani Kalinsky, ZIM's EVP Pacific Business Unit, and Mrs.

German Government Funds Rotor Sail Install on Baltrader Cement Carrier

The German government is providing funding to support the installation of an auxiliary wind propulsion system on board a cement carrier vessel.Hamburg-based Baltrader Capital GmbH & Co. KG. has signed a contract with wind propulsion systems provider Norsepower for the delivery of one 24m x 4m sized rotor sail in summer 2024. The product will be fitted on the newest cement carrier of the Baltrader fleet, Cemcommander, designed by SDC Ship Design & Consultants GmbH and built by Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard (Group) Co. Ltd.The Norsepower rotor sail is a modernized version of the Flettner rotor.

CNOOC Receives Approval for Second LNG Berth at Yancheng Port

Chinese state-owned CNOOC has received government approval to build a second berth at its LNG receiving terminal in Yancheng in eastern Jiangsu province, according to a statement from the Shanghai Petroleum and Natural Gas Exchange on Tuesday.The second berth will be one of four such berths on a new platform and will have annual throughput capacity of 6 million metric tons alongside 4 million tons loading and offloading capacity, the statement said.The addition is part of an expansion project for CNOOC's Yancheng green energy port, which is designed to serve the natural gas needs of the provin

SunStone Lines Up Multi-year Charters for Two Expedition Cruise Ships

Wallenius Wilhelmsen to Order Four Methanol-Ready Vessels

Wallenius Wilhelmsen, the world’s largest RoRo vessel operator, has signed a letter of intent for the delivery of four 9,350 CEU methanol-capable and ammonia-ready vessels and individual options for an additional eight vessels. Höegh Autoliners Opts for Four More Aurora Class Car Carriers

Norwegian shipping company Höegh Autoliners announced on Monday that it has exercised its option to construct four additional multi-fuel and net zero carbon ready Aurora class car carrier vessels at China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd (CMHI) in Haimen.This brings the number of total vessels under the newbuilding program to 12 vessels, all of which will be built by CMHI. Höegh Autoliners has an option to build another four vessels (vessels 13-16), as well as slot reservations for additional four vessels (vessels 17-20).

Celsius Orders Four LNG Carriers

Shipowner Celsius Tankers announced it has ordered four new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from shipbuilder China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) (CMHI) for scheduled delivery in 2026 and 2027.Celsius has formed a joint venture with an affiliate of ArcLight Capital Partners (ArcLight), a middle-market infrastructure investor, to fund two of the LNG carriers. Klaveness Combination Carriers ASA (KCC) announced it has concluded a shipbuilding contract for the construction of three third generation CABU vessels with Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding Co. Grimaldi Orders More Ammonia Ready Car Carriers

The Grimaldi Group announced it has exercised its option for the construction of five additional ammonia-ready 9,000 CEU car carriers from China Merchants Heavy Industries Jiangsu, part of China Merchant Industry Holdings (CMI).Grimaldi announced its initial order for five new pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) vessels from CMI in October. The 10 vessels are scheduled to be delivered between 2025 and 2027 and will be deployed on voyages between Europe, North Africa, and the Near and Far East.Grimaldi said it developed the vessel concept in collaboration with naval architecture firm Knud E.

CMI Inks Licensing Deal with GTT for Membrane Technologies

French engineering firm GTT said it has signed a technical assistance and license agreement with China Merchants Heavy Industries-Jiangsu (CMHI-Jiangsu), a subsidiary of shipbuilding group China Merchants Industry Holdings (CMI), enabling the yard to construct vessels using GTT membrane technologies.GTT and China Merchant Industry Holdings have been cooperating for a decade, with a first Technical Service Agreement signed in 2013 for the maintenance and repair of LNGCs. A cooperation agreement has also been initiated in 2016 for the evaluation of CMHI to implement GTT technologies.

Anemoi, CHI ink Wind Ship Tech Pact

Anemoi Marine Technologies, a provider of Rotor Sails to the shipping industry, reached an agreement with COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Co (CHI), a Chinese shipbuilding organization with nine yards and 7.5m dwt of annual production capability, whereby CHI customers will have the option to install Anemoi's Rotor Sails on newbuild vessels or retrofit during dry dock. Under the terms of the agreement, the companies can offer a turnkey installation solution to customers.Rotor Sails, also known as Flettner Rotors, are an energy saving technology.

Shenghong Petrochemical Preps Terminal for Super Tankers

Chinese refiner Shenghong Petrochemical Corp, part of the listed Jiangsu Eastern Shenghong Co 000301.SZ, has readied a new terminal to receive Very Large Crude Carriers and boost the refiner's logistics efficiency, a company representative said. The Lianyungang terminal in Jiangsu province is able to dock super tankers with capacity of 300,000 tonnes deadweight.The refiner, which started trial operations at its 320,000 barrel per day crude distillation unit in May, is in the process of starting up secondary and petrochemical units
