Wärtsilä Hybrid Scrubbers for 3 Box Ships

Wärtsilä has received an order for Hybrid Scrubber Systems to clean the exhaust emissions from three 2,500 TEU container vessels. The installation has been ordered by a major European owner and operator and will be carried out at the Jinhai Heavy Industry Co., Ltd in China. The contract was signed in March 2015 and the systems are scheduled for delivery in December 2015. The scrubber system, which comprises two scrubber units, will be installed to clean the exhaust from both the main and auxiliary engines. This arrangement enables great flexibility and cost savings when operating at different operational settings. In all, 28 MW of total power output will be handled by the Wärtsilä system. The system is designed to clean the sulphur oxide (SOx) and particulates from the exhaust gas.

Wärtsilä Bags BWM Systems Order from Jinhai Shipyard

Wärtsilä Corporation, has received an order for ballast water management systems (BWMS) for three new container ships being built for a major European shipping company at the Jinhai Shipyard in China. The vessels will be fitted with Wärtsilä Aquarius UV systems, with delivery to the first vessel scheduled for the end of 2015, and for the other two ships during 2016. This latest contract follows the order placed last year from the same company, where Wärtsilä BWMS equipment was installed into three 2100 TEU container ships built in Asia, and which were delivered in December 2014. Each of the three vessels will be fitted with a 500m3 capacity system, which uses filtration and medium pressure UV disinfection treatments.

Wärtsilä wins BWMS Order for 3 Vessels

Wärtsilä has received another important order for its Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS). Three new container ships being built for a major European shipping company at the Jinhai Shipyard in China will be fitted with Wärtsilä Aquarius UV BWMS. The order was placed with Wärtsilä in the first quarter of 2015. Wärtsilä will deliver the BWMS equipment to the first vessel at the end of 2015, and for the other two ships during 2016. Royal IHC Bags Dredging Package Order

Royal IHC (IHC) has secured a new contract with the Chinese shipyard, Jin Hai Heavy Industrial Group, for the delivery of a dredging installation package for a trailing suction hopper dredger. The package contains major parts of the dredging installation for the 7,000m³ hopper dredger. The agreement was signed by the two companies and the owner of the vessel (Shen Zhen Dachan Island Co. Ltd.). The General Manager of IHC Tianjin, Ton de Gruijter, signed the contract on behalf of IHC on 27 October 2014. This coincided with the visit of the Dutch trade mission, headed by HE Ms Lilianne Ploumen (the Dutch Government’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation) to Shanghai. Shen Zhen Dachan Island Co. Ltd.’s new dredging vessel will be commissioned at the end of 2015.

Jinhai Heavy Industry Secures Another Invention Patent

Jinhai Heavy Industry of China has received patent rights for its large ship superstructure hoisting method after a state intellectual property review. The patent rights is for twenty years. The invention patent of large ship superstructure assembly method, is based on the weight and center of gravity of the whole superstructure, gantry crane equipment parameters, such as wire rope length and angle of precise calculation, according to the weight lifting point configuration and the overall design rings, the overall finite element model is established,  a comprehensive check and correction, finally complete the safe and efficient lifting operation…

Latest Ocean-going Vessel Newbuildings

A quiet week in the dry newbuilding market, but more active in the tankship & gas carrier shipbuilding sectors notes the latest Clarkson Hellas S&P Weekly Bulletin. Understood to have been concluded towards the middle of this year, clients of Capital Maritime have placed an order for two firm plus two option 180,000 DWT Capesize at Jinhai Heavy. Pricing for the deal remains undisclosed however delivery of the firm vessels is understood to be planned for 2015. Similarly understood by Clarkson Hellas to have been concluded some months ago and only coming to light this week…

China's Jinhai Heavy Gets Big Containership Orders

Norway's SinOceanic Shipping ASA facilitates newbuilding orders for 10 x 8,800 TEU containerships at Jinhai Heavy Industries. On behalf of foreign interests,  SinOceanic Shipping ASA says it has entered into a contract with Jinhai Heavy Industries, China, to build 10 x 8800 TEU state-of-the art super eco containerships for delivery from mid 2015. Upon delivery, all vessels will enter into long term, fixed charter parties. The vessels will be built to meet the latest IMO CSS Code for container vessels, where keels are laid on or after 1 January 2015. The total transaction, consisting of the combined value of the vessels and the charter parties, has a total gross value of approximately USD 2.4 billion.

ABS Elects New Council

At the 150th Annual Meeting of the Members of ABS, three industry leaders were elected to the ABS Council. Following the Annual Meeting, the ABS Council met and elected industry leaders to both its Marine and Offshore Technical Committees. Individuals serving on the ABS Council and the Technical Committees help guide the class society in fulfilling its mission of promoting the security of life, property and the natural environment. “Classification represents the concept of self-regulation for the marine and offshore industry,” said ABS President and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki.

Wartsila to Design Graig Container Feeders

Wärtsilä has been contracted to supply the ship design for a series of new generation container feeders. The Cardiff-based Graig Group has ordered up to 26 MARLIN 2000 Blue design container feeders to be built at the major Jin Hai shipyard complex in China. The first two vessels are scheduled for delivery in August and September 2013, with subsequent vessels to be delivered in pairs every two-and-a-half months. Wärtsilä Ship Design has developed the MARLIN series in close cooperation with Graig and the DNV classification society. The design offers cutting-edge features for container vessels. Graig Order Launches Generation of "Super Feeders"

The Cardiff-based Graig Group has ordered a series of up to 26 fuel-efficient new generation MARLIN 2000 Blue design container feeders to be built at the major Jin Hai shipyard complex in China. The first two vessels are scheduled for delivery in August and September 2013 with subsequent vessels to be delivered in pairs every two and half months.
