South Korea Ferry Survivors Demand Answers
Teenage survivors of South Korea's worst maritime disaster in 20 years, many wearing yellow bracelets, walked out of classrooms on Tuesday and marched on parliament to demand enabling legislation for a inquiry into the more than 300 deaths. More than half of the 75 children rescued from the ferry Sewol that capsized and sank on April 16 joined growing public calls for parliament to pass a special bill for an independent inquiry sought by victims' families. More than 3.5 million signatures have been collected to demand its passage. "The entire nation saw it on April 16. We ask that the truth behind the unfair deaths our friends suffered be told," said a bespectacled boy taking part, who asked not to be identified.
Hundreds Unaccounted for in S.Korea Ferry Disaster
For the parents of the many teenagers still missing after the Sewol ferry capsized off the coast of South Korea, the wait for news - good or bad - is almost unbearable. Of 462 passengers on board the ship when it set sail from the port of Incheon late on Tuesday, nearly 340 are believed to have been from the same high school near the capital Seoul, on their way to Jeju island for a field trip. The prospect of hundreds of pupils in their late teens perishing in a single accident only adds to the sense of tragedy after Wednesday's disaster.
MTNW Installs Anchor Winch Monitor for KHAN Offshore
Measurement Technology Northwest (MTNW) announced successful Anchor Winch Tension Monitoring system installation and commissioning on the KH-A1 Accommodation Crane Barge. KH-A1 is owned and operated by KHAN Offshore, an engineering, construction and service company based in Geoje, Korea in partnership with Prime Sources Limited, based in Lagos, Nigeria. This vessel currently supports Chevron Nigeria Limited’s operations. The project called for eight RL-20 running line tensiometers, and four dual winch displays, to monitor the anchor winch lines.
