ABB Debuts Air Outlet Silencer, Compact Turbocharger

ABB announced the launch of the large engine industry’s first commercial turbocharging air outlet silencer package at Marintec 2015 in Shanghai, China. Designed to contribute to reductions in engine room noise to meet the new International Maritime Organization SOLAS limits, the package is offered on A100-L and A200-L series turbochargers. Also at Marintec, ABB has launched its smallest turbocharger for two-stroke marine engines; the A160-L, with highest efficiencies and pressure ratios up to 5.0 enabling minimized fuel consumption for IMO Tier II and Tier III NOx compliance. The air outlet silencer is unique in being the first product available to the market to reduce noise emissions for turbochargers on low-speed marine engines.

ABB Tromsø Service Point a Boon

Launching its most northerly Service Point in Tromsø, Norway, ABB Turbocharging reduces customer overhaul turn-around time from as much as one week down to a day. The launch of this Service Point on December 11, 2014 has allowed ABB Turbocharging to further meet customer requirements as it significantly decreases the turn-around time for Original ABB Turbocharging Service in this area, saving time for customers by as much as four days. ABB turbochargers increase power four-fold in gas and diesel engines and substantially reduce emissions. They are critical components in all sea-going vessels with combustion engines. This means that ‘time is money’ when it comes to servicing for operators of merchant ships, offshore vessels and fishing boats.
