Solar Solve Wins 40-Ship Order from S.Korea

The UK-based manufacturer of sunscreens for navigation bridge windows scored order for SOLASAFE anti-glare roller sunscreens that will be installed on 40 vessels that are being built in South Korea during 2019.The Type Approved screens will be fitted at the navigation bridge windows to protect ship’s personnel from heat, glare and uv light that is radiated by the sun to create a safer and more comfortable working environment.Included in the order is a series of 14 massive VLCC 320,000 tons deadweight oil tankers that will be 336 mts long, 60mts beam and 29.5mts depth, that are all being constructed by Daewoo Shipbuilders. Each vessel will cost well over £60m depending on engine type and are being built for owners in Norway…

200 SOLASAFE Screens for Hyundai Containerships

South Shields based Solar Solve Marine received an order from Korea for four ship-sets of its SOLASAFE roller sunscreens. The screens are to be installed at the navigation bridge windows of four very large container carriers currently under construction at Daewoo’s DSME Okpo shipyard on Geoje Island. With a length of 366 mts, a beam of 48.8 mts and depth of 30 mts the vessels will all be 152,700 dwt., and whilst not the biggest in the world, they will still be classed as mega carriers with a maximum capacity of around 13,100 teu.

Re-Gasification Tanker Protected by Solar Solve

The diesel-electric LNG re-gasification tanker GDF Suez Neptune, a Samsung built ship, is unusual because of her diesel-electric propulsion together with her re-gasification capabilities. She will be operated by Hoegh LNG under long-term charter with GDF Suez. At 928 ft in length, 141 ft in mts breadth and 85 ft in depth, the 70,860dwt tanker’s twin 13,200 kW motors enable a service speed of 19.5 knots. GDF Suez Neptune, was delivered with 45 screens from the SOLASOLV range installed at her navigation bridge windows.
