FSMAA Awards Dinner Honoring Jack Ringelberg

The Fort Schuyler Maritime Alumni Association is proud to announce it will honor John M. Ringelberg PE as Distinguished Alumnus of the year at its bi-annual Awards Dinner on Thursday, Janaury 26, 2012 at Bridgewaters in NYC. Captain Jack Ringelberg is currently CEO of JMS Naval Architects & Salvage Engineers, Mystic CT, which is the parent company of Divers Institute of Technology (DIT), a commercial diving school in Seattle, Washington. He is also President and CEO of the Ocean Technology Foundation a non-profit undersea research and exploration organization…

Record Attendance for SNAME 2009

Challenging economic conditions didn’t stop a record number of industry professionals from attending The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) 2009 Annual Meeting and Expo. The three-day event (October 21-23) drew more than 1,150 to the Providence, Rhode Island Convention Center. "In all aspects, the 2009 SNAME Annual Meeting was a resounding success. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to those who attended the meeting, the many SNAME volunteers who organized the technical programs and social events, the meeting sponsors and those who exhibited at our EXPO. We look to build on this success and promise an exciting and stimulating meeting in Seattle/Bellevue in 2010,” said SNAME President Keith Michel.

SNAME Elects New Fellows

On June 1, 2009, the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers announced new additions to its rank of Fellows. The membership grade of Fellow is accorded to individuals who have contributed to significant achievements in naval architecture, marine and ocean engineering, and related fields in the form of advances in design, research, production, operation, education, and associated management. G. Russell Bowler: As the Chief Engineer/Vice President of the largest and most successful sailing yacht design company in America, Russell has served as the lead naval architect in numerous groundbreaking designs. Mr. Bowler introduced modern composite construction to the Round the World Race of 1985/86 with the outstanding success of the maxi-yacht UBS Switzerland.
