Essberger Orders Four Ice-class Chemical Tankers from China Merchants

The John T. Essberger Group said it has signed final agreements with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard Dingheng Co. Ltd to build four 6,600 DWT stainless steel parcel chemical tankers with options for an additional four vessels.The IMO Type II chemical tankers will be Finnish/Swedish 1A ice class certified with dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion and the ability of using shore power connection during cargo operations. Gibdock Completes Complex BWTS Retrofit

Gibraltar-based Gibdock has been gearing up to meet increased shipowner demand for ballast water treatment system (BWTS) retrofits and has recently completed a complex BWTS retrofit on board the 179m, 34,500dwt bulk carrier Zambesi.The 2013-built, DNV GL classed vessel, owned by Hamburg-based John T. Essberger, arrived in Gibraltar on June 4 for a month-long overhaul program. The vessel departed the yard on July 5 with its new ballast water treatment installed and ready for commissioning, having spent 16 days in Gibdock’s No.

Crystal Nordic Sold to Essberger Tankers

Nordic Tankers and Embarcadero Maritime (a joint venture between Borealis Maritime and KKR) have signed and closed an agreement to sell the jointly held company Crystal Nordic to John T. Essberger in Hamburg, a leading owner and operator of chemical tankers in Europe. Crystal Nordic was established following the combination of Nordic Tankers’ inter-European stainless steel chemical tanker business with Crystal Pool in 2015. The parties have agreed not to disclose any financial information. Crystal Nordic is a Danish headquartered chemical tanker operator, owning 14 ships between 4,000 and 12,000 DWT, serving customers primarily in Northern Europe.

Essberger Fleet Moves to Marlink’s Sealink VSAT Service

The Hamburg headquartered John T. Essberger (JTE) Group will migrate the primary communication systems of its entire fleet to Sealink, Marlink’s global maritime broadband VSAT service. The Installation on 22 chemical tankers and nine dry cargo vessels is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Essberger was founded in 1924 as Atlantic Tank Reederei by tank ship pioneer John T. Essberger. The Essberger Tankers division fleet consists of chemical vessels, while JTE Dry Cargo operates a fleet of bulk carriers, multipurpose tonnage and container vessels, as well as cement tankers.

Stolt-Nielsen, Vopak and Essberger Combine Chemical Tanker Fleets

Stolt-Nielsen Transportation Group Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Stolt-Nielsen S.A., Vopak Chemical Tankers B.V. and John T. respective European chemical tanker coastal fleets commencing December 1, 2001 under the name of Vopak Essberger Stolt ChemPool. Stolt-Nielsen Inter European Service (SNIES) and comprises 11 chemical tankers totaling 56,000 dwt. Chemical Tankers B.V. and John T. tankers totaling close to 96,000 dwt. with a total capacity of approximately 150,000 dwt. Germany and Dordrecht, the Netherlands. SNIES will transfer its marketing and operational personnel to Hamburg and Dordrecht.
