Conrad Wins Deal to Build Four Ferries for Puerto Rico

Louisiana-based shipbuilder Conrad Shipyard on Tuesday announced it has secured a contract to build four cargo and passenger ferries for Puerto Rico.The contract from the Puerto Rico Maritime Transit Authority (PRMTA) will see Conrad deliver the first ferry to San Juan, Puerto Rico in late 2024.The ferries, designed to carry 300 passengers and 300 short tons of cargo, will operate between the Municipality of Ceiba and the Municipality Islands of Vieques and Culebra in Puerto Rico."These…

ABS to Class Great Lakes' New Hopper Dredge

The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA), the national association representing the U.S. shipyard industry, today announced the 2022 Annual Shipyard Safety Awards. Conrad to Build Two Tugs for the US Army Corps of Engineers

Conrad Lays Keel for Great Lakes' New Hopper Dredge

Conrad Shipyard hosted a keel laying ceremony for a new 6,500 cubic yard trailing suction hopper dredge it is building for Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company (GLDD). Delivery is scheduled before the end of the first quarter of 2023.The dredge will feature two 800mm suction pipes and will be able to dredge at depths of up to 100 feet. The vessel has principal dimensions of approximately 346 feet in length, 69 feet in breadth and 23 feet in depth, and total installed horsepower of 16,500. The new dredge will be well-suited to multiuse applications on various project types.

Conrad Shipyard said it delivered the 6,000-horsepower towboat, H. Merritt ‘Heavy’ Lane, Jr., to Canal Barge Company, Inc. (CBC). Built at Conrad Amelia, the Subchapter M-compliant vessel measures 166 feet by 49 by 12 and is powered by EPA Tier IV-compliant Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) engines.The H. Merritt ‘Heavy’ Lane, Jr. utilizes a time-proven design concept that has been enhanced to modern standards through advanced engineering analysis, the shipbuilder said, adding efficient operation and attention to crew accommodations and noise reduction were paramount in the design process.

Conrad Industries Announces 2017 Results and Backlog

Conrad Industries, Inc. (OTC Pink: CNRD) has announced its fourth quarter and twelve months 2017 results and backlog. For the quarter ended December 31, 2017, Conrad had net loss of $3.4 million and loss per diluted share of $0.67 compared to net loss of $836,000 and loss per diluted share of $0.15 during the fourth quarter of 2016. The company had net loss of $2.1 million and loss per diluted share of $0.42 for the twelve months ended December 31, 2017 compared to net loss of $1.7 million and loss per diluted share of $0.33 for the twelve months ended December 31, 2016.

Conrad Shipyard of Morgan City, Louisiana has been awarded a contract by Power Engineering Construction Company of Alameda, California to build several components for the Water Emergency Transportation Authority’s (WETA) San Francisco Ferry Expansion Project. Construction will be completed at Conrad’s Orange, Texas shipyard. Keels Laid for Young Brothers Tugs at Conrad Shipyard

Conrad Shipyard held the Keel Laying Ceremony for the four Damen Stan 3711 Kāpena Class tugs now under construction for Young Brothers, Limited of Hawaii. On hand for the ceremony was Glenn Hong, President of Young Brothers, Ltd; Jonathan Parrott, President of Foss Marine, Young Brothers’ sister company; and, Tim Engle and Mark Tabbutt with Saltchuk, the parent company of both. Also attending and delivering remarks was Kommer Damen, Chairman and CEO of Damen Shipyard, and Jim Watson, President of ABS Americas. A number of local officials were also present, including Morgan City Mayor Frank P. Grizzaffi III, Port Director Mac Wade and Councilman Lou Tamporello. Conrad Shipyard Christens Woods Hole Ferry

M/V Woods Hole, a 235-foot long passenger ferry built for the Steamship Authority of Woods Hole, Mass., was christened on May 20 at Conrad Aluminum in Amelia, La. The ferry, with a beam of 64-feet, a draft of 10.5-feet and a hull depth of 18-feet, has the capacity to carry 384 passengers, 55 automobiles or 10 x 18-wheel tractor-trailers. The Woods Hole will run its 45-minute route to and from Martha’s Vineyard and the community of Woods Hole. The Steamship Authority Ferry schedule lists 14 trips daily.

Conrad to Build Young Brothers' New Tugs

Conrad Shipyard of Morgan City, La. has signed a contract to build four Damen Stan 3711 tugs for Young Brothers, Limited of Hawaii, announced Conrad President and CEO, Johnny Conrad. The four new twin-screw tugs are 123-feet in length with a 36.5-feet beam and powered by G.E. 8L250 engines rated at 6,000 horsepower. Designed for high stability and maneuverability, the tug has a maximum bollard pull of 80-metric tons and a top speed of 12.5 knots. Honolulu headquartered Young Brothers, Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Foss Maritime, is Hawaii’s largest inter-island cargo service provider.

The 300 x 68-ft welded steel barge is to be used in floating crane service by the Corps’ Rock Island District in support of its maintenance mission on the inland navigation system.
