Perez Named CEO of The Hiller Companies

The Hiller Companies, a provider of fire and life safety services and portfolio company of Littlejohn & Co., has named Santiago Perez Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Perez was most recently CEO of Keter Environmental Services. Previously, he held senior leadership positions at Schneider Electric, where he oversaw the U.S. services and solutions business, and Johnson Controls, where he led a number of the company’s global business units.

Torqeedo Introduces New Deep Blue Inboard

Torqeedo now offers a shaft drive version of its 40 and 80 horsepower Deep Blue motor. An electric drive designed for marine use from the ground up, the Deep Blue inboard shares the safety, power and performance of the original outboard system, also featuring a quiet, low-maintenance, fume-free and environmentally friendly ride, Torqeedo said. Torqeedo said customers see electric cars and buses on the streets and are intrigued by the benefits of this propulsion on their boats. However, many systems on the market are one-off solutions without comprehensive safety features.

New Sail Training Vessel for Royal Navy of Oman

The new Sail Training Vessel (STV) for the Ministry of Defense of Oman has been officially launched at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania. Damen PSV 3300: A Diamond in the Rough

The platform supply vessel World Diamond was delivered by Damen Shipyards, Galati, on June 28, 2013, to World Wide Supply. The PSV was built to a completely new and distinctive design from Damen, and World Diamond is the first of six PSVs for the Norwegian owner. The vessel is capable of worldwide operations and its construction involved close cooperation with Damen Shipyards Gorinchem, The Netherlands, which provided engineering and main equipment. Calnetix Drive System Passes Navy Tests

Calnetix Technologies, a manufacturer of high-speed permanent magnet motor generators, power electronics and magnetic bearings for a variety of applications and industries, passed the first shock and vibration test requirements for its motor and magnetic bearing technology, which are an integral part of a new generation of shipboard chillers for the U.S. Navy. Shock and vibration testing of the variable speed, two-stage, direct drive compressor was completed as part of the chiller prototype development program led by YORK Navy Systems, a Johnson Controls Company. “The testing is the first step in proving our capabilities in meeting the Navy’s aggressive performance, reliability and environmental goals,” said Vatche Artinian, Cofounder and Chief Executive Officer of Calnetix Technologies.

Johnson Controls' Batteries to Power All-Electric Boat Motors

Johnson Controls, Inc. to produce Li-ion battery packs from its Holland, Mich. plant for Torqeedo's all-electric boat motors. Torqeedo, a German-based manufacturer, will use Johnson Controls' Li-ion automotive battery packs to power its award-winning 80-Horsepower electric boat motor called DEEP BLUE. Emerson Acquires Marine Controls Business From Johnson Controls

St. Louis, Mo. – Emerson today announced that it has acquired the Marine Container and Boiler business of Johnson Controls Inc., enabling Emerson Climate Technologies to expand its refrigeration technology and solutions offerings in the global transportation sector. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Johnson Controls’ Denmark-based Marine Container and Boiler business supplies controls for optimal operation of refrigerated sea containers and marine boilers, along with solutions which monitor and report on refrigeration conditions within large groups of marine shipping containers on land or at sea to ensure product quality and food safety.

U.S. Shipyards: Lean and Mean?

The National Shipbuilding Research Program – Advanced Shipbuilding Enterprise (NSRP-ASE), the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and the Navy's Office of Naval Research (ONR) responded to continuing shipyard and Navy interest in Lean manufacturing by hosting a Lean Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Forum in Norfolk, Va. on May 11-13, 2004. The third forum to be held under NSRP’s Lean Shipbuilding Initiative (LSI), the event served to facilitate the advanced joint learning necessary to accelerate U.S. shipyards’ efforts to incorporate Lean Manufacturing principles throughout their operations. The deployment of Lean in U.S. shipyards directly supports the NSRP mission of reducing the cost of Navy ship acquisition and repair.
