Malaysia's maritime authorities on Monday said cannon shells believed to be from World War Two have been found on a China-registered bulk carrier ship detained at the weekend for anchoring in its waters without permission.The discovery comes amid reports this month that scavengers have targeted two British World War Two wrecks off the coast of Malaysia - the HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse - which were sunk by Japanese torpedoes in 1941, just three days after the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.

Vitol, the world's largest independent oil trader, has started building a small oil refinery at its storage terminal in Malaysia that will provide low-sulfur fuel for ships, a senior company official said on Monday.The project consists of a crude distillation unit that can process 30,000 barrels per day of crude and is located on the same site as Vitol's oil storage terminal at Tanjung Bin in the southern Malaysian state of Johor, Vitol Asia's President and Chief Executive Officer Kho Hui Meng said.A construction unit under China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) is handling the project which will involve moving a second-hand CDU from China to the site…

Johor Port Berhad has signed an agreement with Petronas LNG Ltd. to provide marine services for vessels that receive gassing up and cooling down (GUCD) services at PLL’s Regasification Terminal Pengerang.According to a press release from integrated multi-purpose port facility located at the southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia, the signing of the Marine Services Agreement by Johor Port Bhd and PPL enables the provisioning of marine services and attractive tariff for vessels that receive Gassing Up and Cooling Down (GUCD) services at PLL’s Regasification Terminal Pengerang (RGTP).The GUCD is a specialised service of bringing the storage tanks on liquefied natural gas carrier (LNG) vessels to a natural environment and cooling it down to cryogenic temperature (minus 160 degrees Celcius).

KA Petra, a Malaysian ship-to-ship (STS) transfer specialist, has signed a Heads of Agreement (HOA) with Hutchison Port Holdings to jointly develop the world’s largest STS transfer hub in the country.Under the terms of the HOA, KA Petra will have 70% interest in the project, whilst Hutchison Ports will take a strategic 30% stake.Based on preliminary studies, construction of the STS Hub is estimated to cost USD150 million to USD180 million, and will be funded by a combination of internally generated funds and debt financing. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Marine Department of Malaysia (MDM) conducted a joint chemical spill exercise at sea along the East Johor Strait to test the Joint Emergency Response Plan (ERP) for Chemical Spill Incidents in the East Johor Strait. 2Jointly developed by MPA, MDM, the National Environment Agency (NEA) and Johor Department of Environment (DOE), the objective of the joint ERP is to respond to and mitigate chemical accidents involving the seaborne transportation of hazardous chemicals along the East Johor Strait. The emergency response exercise is part of the bilateral cooperation programme under the Malaysia-Singapore Joint Committee on the Environment (MSJCE).

An Indonesian-flagged ferry, SRI KANDI 99, ran aground on a rock bund at the southern tip of Pulau Tekong on Monday (9 July) night, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). "At 11.42pm on 9 July 2018, the MPA received a report that an Indonesian-flagged ferry, SRI KANDI 99, ran aground on a rock bund at the southern tip of Pulau Tekong, within Singapore port waters," says a press release. The ferry was making a return trip from Panama-registered passenger vessel “AEGEAN PARADISE”, anchored south of Pengerang, Johor, to Pasir Gudang, Johor when she ran aground. She was carrying 34 passengers (33 Malaysians and 1 Vietnamese) and 11 Indonesian crew. All 45 people onboard were safe and accounted for.

Rescuers were scouring the waters off Malaysia's southern coast on Monday for 18 people missing after a boat carrying migrants from Indonesia capsized, killing one woman, a Malaysian maritime official said. Southern Malaysian waterways, which border Indonesia and Singapore, include busy international shipping lanes and rich fishing grounds. Overloaded migrant boats also ply the waters and occasionally run into trouble. Twenty-five people, including a woman, were rescued after the boat, believed to be carrying 44 illegal immigrants, sank early on Monday, said Abu Bakar Idris, an official of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said it is investigating a collision between two tankers in Singapore waters on Tuesday that led to a leak of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from one of the ships.An estimated 1,796 tonnes of butane gas leaked from the LPG tanker involved but this posed no danger to shipping and measures had been taken by the ship's crew to stop the leak, MPA said in a statement."As liquefied butane has a high evaporation rate, MPA has assessed that any leaked butane would have been carried southward away from mainland Singapore, where most of it would have rapidly dissipated to below flammable levels within an hour and pose no risk to shipping…

Two oil products tankers had collided off Singapore coast but the impact of the accident was not immediately clear, industry sources familiar with the matter said on Tuesday. The tankers were identified as Crystal Sunrise, chartered by Japanese liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) firm Gyxis, and Astro Saturn chartered by European trading house Trafigura. "We can confirm that the Astro Saturn is on TC (time charter) to Trafigura and is carrying fuel oil," said it's spokeswoman without elaborating further. According to data from Thomson Reuters Eikon, Crystal Sunrise is a Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) with a deadweight tonne (DWT) of 54,070 tonnes carrying Middle Eastern origin LPG.

An International Maritime Organization (IMO) training in Malaysia has seen port State control officers practice inspecting air pollution and energy efficiency rules aboard a container ship in Johor Port. The participants from across Malaysia have been taking part in the three-day workshop (13-15 February) focusing on how to effectively enforce IMO’s MARPOL Annex VI regulations. The interactive workshop included class-based lectures and exercises, as well as practical training on board, in which relevant certificates and documentation, fuel tank arrangement and bunker fuel samples were inspected. It is the first time that onboard training has taken place under the GloMEEP project, which supports countries in addressing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from ships.

Royal Vopak and its joint venture partners intend to expand their independent storage terminal, Pengerang Independent Terminals Sdn Bhd (PITSB) in Pengerang, Johor in southern Malaysia. PITSB will be expanded with 430,000 cbm to a total capacity of 1.7 million cubic meters.The expansion which is subject to final formalities, is expected to be commissioned progressively from Q1 2019. PITSB provides storage, blending and distribution services for crude oil and clean petroleum products. The expansion relates to the storage of clean petroleum products. In total, 24 new tanks will be built ranging from 10.000 cbm to 25.000 cbm. In addition to the extra capacity, one extra berth will be taken into operation, bringing the total number of operating berths to six.

At about 1930 hours on 10 December 2017, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was informed by Johor’s Maritime Rescue Sub Centre that two men had been reported to be missing after their sampan capsized earlier at about 1630 hours. The incident had occurred 0.8 nautical miles southeast of Pedra Branca, the co-ordinates being latitude 01˚ 19.25’N and longitude 104˚ 24.97’E, within the Singapore Maritime Search and Rescue Region (MSRR). The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) Littoral Mission Vessel RSS Sovereignty was immediately deployed to the area of the incident for the search and rescue (SAR) operations.

MISC Berhad held the naming and delivery ceremony of its new Floating, Storage & Offloading (FSO) facility for Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Limited (COTL), the FSO Benchamas 2. The project marks MISC’s maiden foray into Thailand’s offshore oil and gas sector as well as its first partnership with COTL in the offshore space. The contract for the lease and operations FSO was secured through an international competitive bidding process and was signed between MISC Offshore Floating Terminals (L) Limited (MOFT) and COTL in August 2016.

One person drowned while 14 others were missing after a Chinese sand-dredging vessel capsized off Malaysia's southern state of Johor on Wednesday (March 21), officials said.   Three Chinese crew members were rescued safely after authorities received reports that the JBB Rong Chang 8 had overturned in the waters of Parit Jawa, in Muar district, at 8.50 a.m. local time (0050 GMT), the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency said in a statement.   Search and rescue operations were ongoing, with two patrol boats deployed, the agency said.   The Chinese-owned, Dominican-registered dredger was carrying one Malaysian, an Indonesian and 16 Chinese crew members.    Source: Reuters
