Cummins and Danfoss Partner on Hybrid Propulsion Solutions

Cummins announced it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Danfoss Power Solutions’ Editron division to partner in bringing a unique standard hybrid marine solution to the global maritime market.“This partnership is another step forward in Cummins’ Destination Zero strategy – our plan to reach net zero emissions across our products by 2050,” said Rachel Bridges, Global Marine Director, Cummins Inc. The respective products of Cummins and Danfoss’ are an ideal match, because both companies are focused on energy optimization, efficiency, and clean solutions.

Ship Owners to Get Complete “LNG Solution”

Alliance between Siemens Drilling and Marine, Dresser-Rand—A Siemens Business, and Lloyd’s Register provides end-to-end solution to guarantee availability of LNG as marine propulsion fuel. A "best of industry" team plans to to make LNG widely available to ship owners seeking to use natural gas as a propulsion fuel, meeting tough Sulfur (SOx) and Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emission-reduction requirements – whether regionally or globally. By providing an end-to-end solution encompassing the entire supply chain from natural gas procurement to liquefaction and delivery of LNG to new-building or retrofitting, the collaboration will remove obstacles that can hold back wide-spread adoption of natural gas as the marine fuel of choice.

Partnership Eyes Reduced CO2 Emissions

Logistics company Greencarrier Freight Service and shipping company CMA-CGM Scandinavia have initiated a long-term collaboration project to cut joint CO2 emissions by 30 percent by 2020. The partners aim to achieve this goal through the development of new and sustainable logistics solutions that will also be made available on the market. One example is a joint solution involving sea transport to Gothenburg and further transport to Torsvik, where trucks have now been replaced by rail transport. This change has resulted in a 70 persent reduction in CO2 emissions.

Aker Solutions Developing Norway's Oil and Gas Future

Statoil has awarded Aker Solutions early phase studies for all their recent major discoveries on the Norwegian Continental Shelf; the Skrugard and Havis fields in the Barents Sea and the Johan Sverdrup discovery in the North Sea. Contract values are undisclosed. The past year has been unique, with Johan Sverdrup (formerly named Aldous/Avaldsnes) as the largest out of several new discoveries in mature areas in the North Sea, and the renewed optimism for exploration in the Barents Sea, with the Skrugard and Havis discoveries.

Imtech, VSTEP Partner on Maritime Simulation

Imtech Marine & Offshore and VSTEP announced their cooperation to deliver new maritime training simulators. Veson Nautical & DA-Desk Team Up

Veson Nautical, the U.S.-based developer of software solutions for the commercial maritime community, announced that it has teamed with DA-Desk, an independent provider of port cost management services to provide shipping operators with a fully integrated chartering, operations, financials and port disbursement system. The enhanced integration of the two solutions significantly minimizes error and improves workflow. Meeting the request of DA-Desk’s customers that use Veson’s IMOS, port disbursement data captured by DA-Desk can flow seamlessly into IMOS, omitting the need for duplicate data entry for ship operators. Back-end financial processes gain efficiencies as well, as the integrated solution manages invoicing, accounts receivables and port disbursements from one platform.

Aker Finnyards: Negotiations with Employee Reps Concluded

Since the beginning of 2005 Finland's three largest shipyards in Helsinki, Rauma and Turku have been working as one company, the new Aker Finnyards. As a part of the restructuring, negotiations were started on November 9 with the employee representatives to improve the productivity of the yards. The formal negotiations have now been concluded, and the number of employees that will be affected will be approximately 315. "I am very pleased with the result, and that we have come to a joint solution with the employee representatives to develop Aker Finnyards' competitiveness. For winning new orders, improving competitiveness is a prerequisite, and a daily challenge for our yard, personnel and our network of co-operation partners.
