John McLaurin to Receive 2013 Connie Award

John McLaurin, President of Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA)

John McLaurin, President of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA), a West Coast maritime trade association representing ocean carriers and marine terminal operators on a variety of local, state and federal issues, has been selected to receive the 2013 Connie Award to be presented on the West Coast by the Containerization and Intermodal Institute. The industry-wide dinner event honoring Mr. McLaurin will be held on Thursday, September 26, at the Renaissance Hotel in Long Beach, Calif.

New Cranes Arrive at Seattle Container Terminal

SSA Marine & subsidiary SSA Terminals announce arrival of 3 new Super Post Panamax cranes for Terminal 18, Seattle. Together with the three Super Post Panamax cranes that arrived in December 2011, the cranes represent a $54 million investment by SSA Terminals. These are the largest cranes in the Puget Sound region, enabling Terminal 18 to service the world’s largest 18,000 TEU vessels. Each crane will have a lifting height of 146 feet and an outreach of 210 feet, allowing for 9 high containers above deck and a reach of twenty four containers wide.

Richard D. Steinke To Receive 2011 Connie Award

Long Beach, CA (May 9, 2011) -- Richard D. Steinke, who will retire this year as executive director of the Port of Long Beach and who was instrumental in developing the Port into one of the world's largest container harbors, has been selected to receive the Connie Award to be presented on the West Coast by the Containerization & Intermodal Institute (www.containerization.org). The industry-wide dinner event honoring Mr. Steinke will be held on Wednesday, September 21, at the Renaissance Hotel in Long Beach, CA.

Bruner, Newsome Receive East Coast Connie Awards

The Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) will present the 2010 East Coast-based Connie Awards to J. Russell Bruner, Chairman and CEO of Maersk Inc. and James I. Newsome III, President and CEO of the South Carolina State Ports Authority. The evening event on Tuesday, December 7 at The Newark Club will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of CII. The Newark Club event is in addition to the West Coast-based Connie Awards on September 30 in Long Beach, CA, honoring Ron Widdows and Jon Hemingway. CII holds two Connie events each year to accommodate industry leaders on both coasts. Each recipient is being honored for his significant influence in containerization in worldwide trade and transportation, according to Allen Clifford, CII President.
