KL Sandefjord Receives DNV GL's 'Shore Power' Notation
The offshore vessel KL Sandefjord owned by K Line Offshore AS, a 100 percent subsidiary of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd (“K” Line), is the first offshore vessel with the DNV GL class notation “Shore power”. The “Shore power” notation, verifies the design and installation of a vessel’s on-board electrical shore connection. Arctech to Build Peace Boat's 'Ecoship'
Japanese cruise organization Peace Boat has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with the Finnish shipbuilding company Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Inc. Peace Boat director and founder Yoshioka Tatsuya, Esko Mustamaki, CEO from Arctech and Jon Rysst, Regional Manager North Europe, from Classification Society DNV GL, announced the agreement during Nor-Shipping. Developing a Roadmap for Green Coastal Shipping
The Norwegian authorities’ target for 2030 is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% compared to what they were 40 years earlier. By doing so, Norway will set the direction for the shipping industry and continue to be a front-runner. The entire Norwegian shipping industry as well as the Norwegian authorities have gathered to create the Green Coastal Shipping Programme. The programme participants are now ready to share their views and recommend progress in a roadmap addressed to the Norwegian Government. “Our vision is to go further into the future to ensure that Norway has established the world’s most efficient and environmentally friendly coastal shipping by 2050.
DNV to Cooperate with Korea Gas Corporation
DNV and Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS), Korea’s national gas company, has entered into an agreement to cooperate on a feasibility study on the establishment of an LNG bunkering infrastructure in Korea. This is one of the largest and most comprehensive feasibility studies ever initiated in the worldwide LNG bunkering industry. Based on this agreement, DNV will qualitatively and quantitatively study the feasibility of implementing LNG bunkering in ports in the south-eastern area, Pusan, and western area, Incheon and Pyeongtaek. This project will be led by Dr. Sun Il Yoo, Senior Customer Service Manager in DNV Korea, who will be assisted by the DNV Clean Technology Centre in Singapore. KOGAS has formed consortiums with Korea’s major energy companies to carry out the feasibility study.
Training Course Certified to Ice Navigation Standard
The Ship Maneuvering Simulator Centre of Trondheim, Norway is the first training centre to have its navigation course certified to DNV’s ice navigation standard. “Representing the world’s only competence standard in this area we are stressing the importance that the additional challenges in Arctic waters must be met with a highly skilled crew,” said Jon Rysst, DNV’s regional manger of Norway, Finland and Baltics. Certification by DNV means that the SMS course is developed, structured and delivered to a high pedagogical standard, and that the content meets or exceeds the DNV Standard of Competence for Ice Navigation. This is the world’s only competence standard available to the maritime industry. "There is no doubt that there will be more ship traffic in the Arctic regions.
