Taiwan Ship Design, Shipbuilding Bolstered by High Tien Offshore Newbuild Plan

High Tien Offshore, a Taiwanese company that specializes in offshore wind marine engineering services, announced its collaboration with Ship and Ocean Industries R&D Center (SOIC) and Jong Shyn Shipbuilding (JSS) to build offshore vessels.“In order to support government’s localization development policy and developers’ bidding for the offshore wind farms of zonal development in Round 3, High Tien Offshore plans to build Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV) and Service Operation Vessel (SOV), with the mission of creating Taiwan values and establishing autonomous capability of marine vessels.

High Tien Offshore, Jong Shyn Shipbuilding to Build Taiwanese CTVs

High Tien Offshore (HTO) signed a Letter of Intent with Jong Shyn Shipbuilding (JSS) to build Taiwanese Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV) in JSS' shipyard for use in the Taiwanese offshore wind farm industry, supporting developers’ bidding for the offshore windfarms of zonal development in Round 3.The CTVs, when built, will be suitable to operate in the harsh weather and sea conditions in the Taiwanese offshore wind farm areas, and are in step with the Taiwanese government's promotion of local supply chain support for the offshore wind farm industry.

Taiwan: Jong Shyn Shipbuilding Bags CGA Ship Order

The construction of a 600-tonne Coast Guard Administration (CGA) patrol ship by  the Taiwan-based shipbuilding company Jong Shyn Shipbuilding Corporation (JSSC) began in Kaohsiung.An official statement from Taiwan coast guard said that the ship is the first of a dozen to be produced by the company for the agency.According to Taipei Times, CGA Fleet Branch head Hsieh Ching-chin and JSSC Chairman Han Pi-hsiang presided over the initiation ceremony Friday to mark the start of the ship's construction.The report quoted Hsieh saying that the construction of the patrol ship symbolized a new milestone in the country's shipbuilding capabilities…

TAIWAN – Research Vessel Ready for Launch

The Taiwan Ocean Research Institute (TORI) is preparing the launch of the new 2.700 ton – ORV, Multi purpose Oceanographic Research Vessel, “RESEARCH V”. The vessel that is being constructed in the shipyard Jong Shyn Shipbuilding Group in Kaohsiung will be launch in June, and will be completed by 2012. Jong Shyn is responsible for the delivery of the complete research vessel to TORI and the Taiwanese science community. TORI is one of the National Applied Reseach Laboratories (NARL) in Taiwan. Deck equipment and oceanographic winches has being supplied by Spanish companies.

Wärtsilä Receives 1st CWA Design Order

Wärtsilä, power system integrator, has signed a design and propulsion system order with Taiwan's Jong Shyn Shipbuilding for a product chemical tanker. The 6500 dwt vessel, due for delivery in 2011, is for CPC Corporation (CPC), a Taiwanese state-owned oil company. This is the first order through the Wärtsilä network for a design developed by Conan Wu Associates (CWA), a Wärtsilä Ship Design company, since it was acquired in September 2008. MJP Wins Record Order in S. Korea

The Coast Guard of Taiwan has recently taken delivery of CG hull 123 and CG 125, which form part of Taiwan's 500 ton project. These two new vessels were built by Jong Shyn shipyard and are equipped with 4 x MJP 850 jets provided by Sweden-based MJP Waterjets. Comparing these new waterjets with the CP propellers of the preceding conventional ship, the results are striking. The new MJP propulsion arrangement is said to cost 40% less, while, at the same time, propulsion efficiency, fuel economy, acceleration and ship speed have been improved significantly.

First Steel-Hull Megayacht from Taiwan

Jade Yachts Shipbuilding Corp. is set to deliver the first made-in-Taiwan steel super yacht, a milestone in the nation's shipbuilding sector. "We hope to take the shipbuilding industry in Taiwan to a higher level in terms of quantity and quality," Jade Yachts chairman Han Pi-hsiang said while scrutinizing the 86-ft. yacht Bandido during its first sea trial in Kaohsiung Harbor, according to a report on www.taipeitimes.com. Han is also the chairman of Jong Shyn Shipbuilding Co, the parent company of Jade Yachts and the nation's largest private shipbuilder. Bandido is the first yacht with a steel and aluminum hull ever made by a Taiwanese company.

Controversy Surrounds Missle Boat Contract

According to the report, the problem began last week when People First Party (PFP) Legislator Sun Ta-chien accused companies involved in the bidding of leaning on officials in order to secure a $446 million contract to build 29 missile boats for the navy. According to the report, Sun further alleged that former presidential adviser Chen Che-nan and Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Hou Ho-hsiung pressured the ministry and the firm that won the contract to divert some work to a second company. The Taipei Times report said that Chen and Hou deny having done so. In the wake of Sun's claims, calls are mounting in the legislature for a thorough investigation of the bidding on the missile-boat contract to uncover the truth…
