Singapore Maritime Gallery Re-opens After Makeover

The Singapore Maritime Gallery (SMG) which underwent a refresh, was officially opened today by Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Ministry of Transport, Mrs Josephine Teo. Visitors can now look forward to more interactive and experiential learning in a vibrant maritime setting. From a ship simulator to “Ship Spotting”, visitors can immerse themselves in virtual reality as they experience a 360 degrees view of the various ship models and their components. Among the new features of the Gallery are two new sections called the “Changing Gallery” and the “Epilogue”. The “Changing Gallery” is a versatile space that can host exhibitions, workshops and other maritime-related activities.

MPA Expands MOU with DNV GL

A memorandum of understanding to promote research and development (R&D) and innovation in the maritime industry was renewed between DNV GL and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). Given the growing need to create safer and more efficient solutions for the maritime industry, this renewed MOU will have an expanded scope to include the R&D of intelligent shipping systems. Intelligent shipping systems such as autonomous vessels and drones for maritime purposes, or the use of data analytics to create robust and optimal shipping solutions. These systems will help to enhance safety and sustainability of shipping and port activities.

DNV GL, MPA to Research Autonomous Shipping Systems

MPA Launches Inaugural Maritime Youth Festival

Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Ministry of Transport, Mrs Josephine Teo officially opened the inaugural Maritime Youth Festival (MYF). Organised by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), MYF is a biennial two-day festival that aims to raise awareness of Maritime Singapore through a weekend of fun-filled activities. Positioned as an event that is run for youth by youth, participants will be introduced to different aspects of maritime industry in a light-hearted manner through booth games and activities. Andrew Tan, Chief Executive of MPA said, “We are excited about this new initiative. The MYF reflects a fresh approach towards engaging young Singaporeans on the many exciting opportunities offered by the maritime sector.

SSA Showcases OSV Sector with OSV@Vivo 'Open House'

OSV@Vivo has been taken to the heart of the Singapore public with an anticipated 4,000 visitors, expected to throng the two state-of-the-art Offshore Support Vessels (OSV) “Pacific Legacy” and “VOS Prince” moored at local shopping mall Vivocity Waterfront Promenade from 21 to 23 April 2016. Local institutes of higher learning are lending their support to this inaugural event with some 600 students from the Institute of Technical Education and Ngee Ann Polytechnic already registered to attend. This industry-led project, spearheaded by the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) and held in conjunction with Singapore Maritime Week, is designed to create awareness of the offshore marine sector – a key sector in the Singapore maritime industry.

Government, Industry Look to Singapore and Asean Shiping

The strength and robustness of shipping both in Singapore and the South East Asian region was put into sharp focus at the Singapore Shipping Association’s 28th Anniversary Gala Dinner, held in the splendour of the West & Central Compass Ballroom at the Resorts World Convention Center in Sentosa. Addressing 1,800 attendees, Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport, said that while the past year had been a challenging one for the shipping industry, the long-term fundamentals for the maritime sector in the region remained strong.

Keppel Set to Deliver Semisubmersible to Ensco

Keppel to deliver sixth ultra-deepwater semi to Ensco over the past 42 months. Keppel FELS Limited is on course to deliver ENSCO 8505, the sixth of seven ENSCO 8500 Series® ultra-deepwater semisubmersible (semi) drilling rigs to Ensco (NYSE: ESV) safely, on time and within budget. The rig is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2012 with zero lost-time incidents in over five million man-hours worked. Upon completion, ENSCO 8505 is contracted in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico with Anadarko, Apache and Noble Energy. With Singapore's Minister of State for Transport and Finance, Mrs Josephine Teo, as the guest-of-honour, the rig was named ENSCO 8505 at Keppel FELS today.
