Great Ships of 2013: Shuttle Tanker RIO 2016 for TEN

RIO 2016 is the first vessel in a series of two shuttle tanker in Brazilian water operation, designed by Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering for Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd., two companies with a long and good historic relationship. This vessel was chartered to Petroleo Brasileiro SA. The ship is built under the survey of DNV and designed in accordance with IACS common structure rule (CSR). The vessel has six pairs of cargo oil tanks, two slop tanks, fore and aft peak tanks, segregated water ballast tanks, fuel oil tanks and fresh water tanks.

Carnival Decides on Automatic Fuel Management System

Carnival Corporation contracts with JOWA Technology & JOWA WFE for equipment supply, installation & product training throughout its cruise fleet. Carnival representatives believe that the automated fuel switching system by JOWA Technology can save fuel by optimising fuel changeover time when transiting in or out of emission control areas, and that the system has proven to be reliable, consistently accurate, and to reduce the potential for crew error. This agreement, says Carnival, follows a period of extensive testing on board the Princess Cruises’ cruise ship Grand Princess.

Jo Tanker Makes the "Diesel Switch"

Jo Tanker, a Norwegian ship owner, has reached changeover and blend fuel requirements by installing JOWA Technology Diesel Switch DS MKII. The switch is type-approved by Germanisches Lloyd and leads to meeting the sulphur emissions levels in CARB and SECA areas. The DS MKII Diesel Switch has been developed by Swedish-based Jowa Technology. According to the company it provides a reliable solution for the shipping industry. Incorrectly performed changeover  will create both short-term, as well as long-term problems for crew, engine, environment and the owner.
