Eighty-two Crowley Maritime Corporation vessels recently received the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA)’s annual Jones F. Devlin Awards in recognition of their outstanding safety records in 2017. Each year the CSA grants Devlin Award certificates to manned merchant vessels that have operated for two or more years without incurring a lost time injury (LTI), specifically highlighting the skills and dedication of the crewmembers responsible for safe vessel operations.Crowley’s 2017 Devlin Award-worthy vessels together have achieved an impressive total of 613 years of service without an LTI.

The Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) this week announced the 2017 Environmewntal Achievement Award Winners. At a dinner ceremony in the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC on November 8, 2017, CSA awarded Certificates of Environmental Achievement to 1,810 ships owned by seventy-two companies with a total of 15,307 years of environmental excellence. The average number of years operating without incident for ships and vessels that received awards is 8.1 years. Eighty-seven vessels owned or managed by Crowley Maritime Corporation recently received the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA)’s annual Jones F. Devlin Awards in recognition of their 2016 safety records. Each year, the CSA grants Devlin Award certificates to manned merchant vessels that have operated for two or more years without incurring a Lost Time Injury (LTI), highlighting the skills and dedication of the crewmembers responsible for safe vessel operations. Crowley’s 2016 Devlin Award-worthy vessels together have achieved 670 years of service without an LTI.

The U.S. maritime industry publicly recognized the merchant mariners responsible for safe ship operations at the Annual Safety Awards Luncheon held on June 7, 2017. In all, 211 people, representing 53 companies and their subsidiaries attended the annual industry-sponsored event where 1,582 vessels with 10,604 cumulative years of accident free operation were recognized. Since 1958, the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) has also sponsored the Safety Achievement Award program which recognizes outstanding feats of safety that contribute to saving a life, a ship or other property.

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) will focus clearly on its core agenda this year, with experts from key areas of industry across the board speaking at its 2016 International Shipping Conference, to be held at the British Library on Wednesday 7 September. Principal speakers include Kitak Lim, Secretary-General, IMO; Ian Parry, Principal Environmental Fiscal Policy Expert, International Monetary Fund (IMF); and Esben Poulsson, new Chairman of ICS. The Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) has recognized 73 vessels of Foss Maritime and their subsidiary companies with the 2015 Jones F. Devlin award for outstanding safety records. The Jones F. Devlin Award is one of two award programs CSA has sponsored since 1968. The award is given to self-propelled merchant vessels that have operated for two full years or more without a crew member involved in a lost-time incident. It publicly recognizes the skill and dedication of the men and women who are responsible for safe vessel operations. The 73 Foss vessels were recognized at the CSA Annual Safety Awards Luncheon held this year on June 8 in New Orleans. Altogether, the Foss and subsidiary company vessels achieved the equivalent of 562 years of incident-free operation.

The WISTA USA CMA luncheon which was held on Monday, March 21, and was well attended by industry professionals from around the globe.   The guest speaker, Kathy Metcalf, President of U.S. Chamber of Shipping, spoke of the numerous challenges facing the marine industry today and provided an inspirational speech to the many cadets in attendance.

Shipping may think they hear the sound of new regulations as they are slammed onto their desks. What is all the noise concerning noise at IMO? This may very well be the question from ship owners, operators and builders closely following activities at the International Maritime Organization (IMO). 'Safety at Sea' focus of NAMEPA's National Maritime Day seminar at the Washington DC National Press Club. The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) will be offering a seminar “Environmental Intelligence in Maritime:  Safety at Sea", featuring shipboard safety, piracy, and an update on issues for seafarers. The seminar will take place on May 21st at the National Press Club in Washington DC commencing at 2:00pm. The seminar is intended to commemorate National Maritime Day, which is held on May 22nd to honor merchant mariners.
