General Dynamics Make Leadership Changes

Jeffrey S. Geiger, president of General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, will become president of General Dynamics Electric Boat effective November 4, 2013, following the retirement of Kevin J. Poitras. Geiger will continue reporting to John P. Casey, executive vice president of Marine Systems for General Dynamics. In addition, Frederick J. Harris will remain as president of General Dynamics NASSCO and will also serve as president of Bath Iron Works. Bath Iron Works and NASSCO will remain as wholly owned and separate General Dynamics subsidiaries. Michael J.

General Dynamics Awarded $4.6 Billion for Sub Programs

General Dynamics Electric Boat was recently awarded three U.S. Navy contracts totaling $4.6 billion to design and develop the next-generation strategic deterrent submarine, and to continue construction and purchasing of materials for Virginia-class attack submarines. Under a five-year, $1.85 billion Ohio Replacement Program contract, Electric Boat will perform research and development work for this new class of ballistic-missile submarine, which is scheduled for a 2021 construction start. Additionally, Electric Boat will continue development of the joint U.S. Navy / Royal Navy Common Missile Compartment for Ohio Replacement submarines and the UK Successor-class ballistic-missile submarine. The potential value of this contract is $1.995 billion.

U.S. Nuclear Submarine Mississippi Completes First Voyage

The nation’s newest and most-advanced nuclear-powered attack submarine, Mississippi (SSN-782), returned to the Electric Boat shipyard following the successful completion of its first voyage in open seas, called alpha sea trials. Mississippi is the ninth ship of the Virginia Class, the most-capable class of attack submarines ever built. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD). During the alpha sea trials, Mississippi submerged for the first time and conducted high-speed runs on and under the surface to demonstrate that the submarine’s propulsion plant is fully mission-capable. The sea trials were conducted by Adm. Kirkland Donald, director – Naval Nuclear Propulsion. Also participating in the sea trials were Rear Adm.
