AD Ports Group and Premier Marine Engineering Services LLC formed a new joint venture, SAFEEN Drydocks, owned 51% by AD Ports Group, 49% by Premier Marine.The new enterprise will offer a broad range of vital services including drydocking, afloat repairs, ship building and refurbishment. The hub of SAFEEN Drydocksā operations will be located at Khalifa Port and encompass a 45,000 sq. m. shipyard and repair facility, 350m quay wall for vessel afloat repair, and a floating dry dock for vessel maintenance and refurbishment.

Qingdao Port Buys Stake in Cosco Abu Dhabi
China-based Qingdao Port International Development has agreed to purchase a 33% stake in COSCO Shipping Ports (Abu Dhabi), a deepwater terminal located in Khalifa Port, for US$59m.Abu Dhabi Terminal is a joint venture company established in the United Arab Emirates.The investment, which will be made through Qingdao Port's Hong Kong subsidiary QDP International Development, will give the port operator a 30 percent holding in the CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal at Khalifa Port in which the Hong Kong-based firm holds a 90 percent stake, Qingdao Port said in a press release.As of the date of announcement, its remaining equity of 10% owned by an independent third party.

Konecranes Wins Abu Dhabi Terminal Automation Deal
Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) has selected Konecranes to be the supplier of an Automated Stacking Crane (ASC) system for the second phase of the building of its container terminal in Khalifa Port: the Khalifa Port Container Terminal (KPCT).This is an order for a total of 54 Automated Rail Mounted Gantry (ARMG) cranes. The parties involved have agreed not to disclose the value of the deal. The order will be booked in Q4 2018.Konecranes earlier successfully delivered 52 ARMG cranes, on time and on budget for the first phase of KPCT container terminal, which went live on 12/12/12. The second phase involves a large expansion of the terminal area, infrastructure, container handling capacity, and the delivery of 54 Konecranes ARMGs.

Abu Dhabi Ports, EGA Open Freight Station at Khalifa Port
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside oil and gas, and Abu Dhabi Ports have opened a facility which will reduce trucking of EGAās aluminium within Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD) by over 290,000 kilometres per year, reducing costs and environmental emissions. The new container freight station will be used to load metal into containers for transfer onto ships for export. It has been purpose built by Abu Dhabi Ports close to EGAās Al Taweelah site to reduce the trucking distance for each consignment by approximately 17 kilometres. Last year EGA shipped some 600,000 tonnes of aluminium from Khalifa Port, requiring over 17,000 truck movements from EGAās site to the quayside.

Khalifa Port to Handle World's Largest Ships
Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company outside oil and gas, has signed a long-term port facility agreement with Abu Dhabi Ports to use some of the worldās largest bulk cargo vessels to import raw materials through Khalifa Port. With this agreement, Abu Dhabi Ports will be able to develop the port to become the first in the Gulf capable of directly handling these massive ships. Abu Dhabi Ports will fund and complete dredging and widening works to the Khalifa Port approach channel and basin including EGAās berth. Three New STS Quay Cranes at Khalifa Port
Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) announced the arrival of three of the largest ship-to-shore quay cranes in the world, to accommodate growing volumes and demand at Khalifa Port Container Terminal (KPCT), WAM reports. Transported from China on specially-built vessels, the latest additions complement the current nine STS cranes already operational at the facility. Cosco wins Abu Dhabi Container Terminal Concession
Abu Dhabi Ports has awarded China's Cosco Shipping a 35-year concession to build and operate a new container terminal at Khalifa Port, the chief executive of the Abu Dhabi company told Reuters on Wednesday. The terminal is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2018, Mohamed Juma al-Shamisi said. It will have a capacity of 2.4 million twenty foot equivalent units (TEUs), with an option to increase that to 3.5 million TEUs, Shamisi added. COSCO is expected to invest as much as $400 million on the project. Abu Dhabi Ports is an Abu Dhabi government-owned company that runs Khalifa Port and the Khalifa Industrial Zone. DP World to Address Hanjin Disruption
Dubai ports operator DP World is working with customers to minimise disruption following the collapse of Hanjin Shipping, reports National. About ten ships operated by the Korean company are currently in Dubaiās Jebel Ali Port according to Hanjin data. Two other ships have arrived in Abu Dhabiās Khalifa Port Container Terminal. "While we donāt publish data on client receivables, following Hanjin Shippingās decision to file for court protection, we have been working with our customers and partners to minimise impact on world trade," The National quoted a DP World spokesman as saying. The filing for receivership is still at an early stage and DP World notes that the exact form of the proposed restructuring plan is still unknown.
DP World to Delay Jebel Ali Port Expansion
Company blames softer market conditions; plan to add 1.5 mln TEU to Terminal 3 delayed into 2017. DP World, one of the world's largest port operators, is delaying the expansion of Dubai's Jebel Ali port, its main facility, because of softer market conditions, the company said on Thursday. A plan to add 1.5 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEU) of annual capacity to Terminal 3 at Jebel Ali will be delayed into 2017, while expansion of Terminal 4 will also be slowed, DP World said without giving details. The company had announced in July 2015 that it would invest $1.6 billion in Terminal 4, which was to be completed by 2018. Jebel Ali handles shipments not only for the United Arab Emirates but for much of the region.
