Tanker Assists Sailor in Distress in the Caribbean Sea

Coast Guard crews and the chemical tank ship Silver Dover assisted an 80-year-old man in distress aboard the sailing vessel Tao Feb. 4, 2023, approximately 57 nautical miles southeast of Puerto Rico. US LNG Going Global

The U.S. liquified natural gas (LNG) market is ripe with opportunity, according to American Action Forum (AAF). "When coupled with the tension surrounding Qatar (the largest exporter of natural gas in the world), this makes U.S. LNG production a very attractive option," said Kimberly VanWyhe is the Director of Energy Policy at the AAF. In 2016, LNG exports from the U.S. totaled 184,141 million cubic feet with a value of roughly $564 million. Currently the U.S. is exporting LNG to 23 out of 35 countries that can accept LNG transport vessels, a sharp change from this time last year. Last week, Taiwan received their first  shipment of U.S. LNG, with more countries expected to be added to the list in the future.

Florida's First Ocean-to-Air Transhipment

Already the busiest port of entry in America for international air freight, Miami International Airport will soon be able to receive perishable freight imports by sea as well – a first for any Florida airport – through a permit approved in September by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Winners of International Seafarers' Welfare Awards

The winners of ISWAN's International Seafarers' Welfare Awards 2016 were announced on 24th June at a high-profile ceremony held in Manila, the Philippines. The ceremony forms part of ISWAN's celebrations in the Philippines for the IMO Day of the Seafarer. The awards were presented by IMO Secretary General Mr Kitack Lim to seven recipients who have provided exceptional services for the welfare and wellbeing of seafarers. The Welfare Personality of the Year Award is named after Dr Dierk Lindemann who sadly passed away on 17 March 2014. Dr Lindemann served as the Shipowner's Group spokesperson at the ILO and took a lead role in the adoption of the Maritime Labour Convention. Cargo Ship Held in Seattle for Safety Violations

Containership Lowlands Kamsar has been detained by U.S. Coast Guard personnel in Seattle, Monday, after a Port State Control exam detected several safety violations. The Lowlands Kamsar a 751-foot, Panamanian-flagged ship will remain in Sector Puget Sound's Captain of the Port zone until the violations are corrected, the Coast Guard said. During the exam Coast Guard Port State Control officers discovered that the automatic fire extinguishing system that protects the vessel’s engine room had been disabled by the crew, additionally, the vessel’s owner, Misuga S.A., failed to ensure that appropriate corrective action was taken. Wood Group Wins Browse FEED Contract

Wood Group has secured its second front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the proposed Browse floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) Development offshore Western Australia. Under the new contract with Woodside, effective immediately, Wood Group Kenny (WGK) will progress the configuration design of the flexible risers and umbilicals for the asset’s offshore gas-condensate fields - Brecknock, Calliance and Torosa. Shell Sells Elba Liquefaction Project Interest to Kinder Morgan

Kinder Morgan Inc. will buy out Royal Dutch Shell PLC’s interest in their proposed Elba Liquefaction Co. (ELC ) joint venture in Georgia. Houston-based Kinder Morgan already owns 51% of the ELC joint venture. The firm said it would buy the 49 percent stake that it does not already own in the natural gas joint venture and it raised its dividend. ELC owns the Elba Liquefaction Project, which is proposed to be constructed and operated at the existing Elba Island LNG Terminal near Savannah, Georgia. Kinder Morgan expects to invest an additional $630 million in the joint venture as a result of the transaction, bringing its total investment to $2.1 billion. Construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter, with initial production to begin in late 2017.

Gulf LNG Liquefaction Project on the Anvil

The Gulf LNG Liquefaction Project proposed by Kinder Morgan and minority partners officially filed Friday for federal approval to add exporting capabilities to an existing liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal. The $8 billion LNG export project near Pascagoula, Mississippi is for adding export capabilities to a pre-existing LNG terminal there. Subject to obtaining sufficient long-term customer commitments, anticipated capital expenditures for the project at full development total approximately $8 billion. Anticipated capital for a single LNG train in phase one totals approximately $5 billion and approximately $3 billion for a second train in phase two. In service for phase one is anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2020 and the fourth quarter of 2021 for phase two.

Strip Club Barge Accused of Dumping Sewage into Harbor

A federal grand jury returned a three-count indictment against the owners of a floating bar and strip club barge, charging them with offenses relating to the improper disposal of human waste into waters in and around Kodiak, Alaska, United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced. According to the filed Indictment, Kimberly Christina Reidel-Byler and Darren K. Byler, both residing near Kodiak, Alaska, owned and operated the Wild Alaskan, a converted 94-foot Bering Sea crabber anchored in St. Herman Harbor, Kodiak, Alaska. The Wild Alaskan was a floating bar and strip club from June 25 to November 30, 2014. Customers were ferried to the vessel from shore by the Gulf Coast Responder, a 35-foot landing craft. Baker Hughes Incorporated has today announced appointment of Kimberly A. Ross, as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) effective October 22, 2014. Ross currently serves as Executive Vice President and CFO of Avon Products, Inc. She served as Executive Vice President and CFO of Royal Ahold N.V. from 2007 to 2011 and held various other finance positions at Royal Ahold from 2001 to 2007. ESG Deliver Towboat, Launch PSV

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. informs that it has delivered the towboat MV Kimberly Hidalgo to Florida Marine, and on the same day launched the Platform Support Vessel (PSV) MV Bravante lX for Boldini S.A., Bravante Group of Brazil. The new tugboat is  one of a series with EPA Tier 3 main propulsion engines and generators delivered to Florida Marine. The reduction gears are direct coupled Twin-Disc Model MG- 5600 with a 6.04:1 reduction supplied by Stewart Supply, Inc. of Harvey, Louisiana. Electrical power is provided by two (2) 99kW John Deere 4045AFM85 99KW Tier 3 generator sets rated for 60 Hz, at 208 VAC provided by Kennedy Engine Company of Biloxi, MS. These diesel engines comply with the current EPA Tier 3/MARPOL control of emissions of nitrogen oxides from marine diesel engines.
