Port of Klaipeda Orders Fully Electric Waste Collection Tanker

The Port of Klaipėda has placed an order worth roughly €11 million for the design and construction of a fully electric tanker that will collect waste from other vessels arriving at the port.The project marks the first large collaboration between Baltic Workboats and Western Baltija Shipbuilding, a subsidiary within BLRT Grupp. The 42-m long and 10-m wide tanker will carry up to 400 m3 of liquid waste. The vessel will have a fully electric propulsion system with 2,000 kWh of batteries installed on board, meaning she can sail at 8 knots continuously for 8 hours without charging.

Finland’s New Inkoo Terminal Accepts First LNG

Finland’s new Inkoo floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) terminal on Sunday accepted its first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG).The cargo, which was ordered by Elenger, the largest privately owned energy company in the Finnish-Baltic region, was delivered by multinational energy and commodity trading company Vitol.The cargo, which originates from Vitol’s Venture Global Calcasieu Pass facility in the U.S., was transported aboard Vitol's LNG carrier Vivit Americas LNG.

Electric Eel: Electric Pusher Vessel Design Unveiled

Wasa Dredging Southern Breakwater in Klaipeda

Wasa Dredging said it has entered into a charter agreement with Herbosch-Kiere for the dredging of the subsoil for the Southern Breakwater in the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania.Dredging services started on March 13. In total some 95,000 cubic meters of sand and clay will be dredged down to -19 meters. Horizontal dredging tolerances are -0.3 to +0.1 meters.Soils will be dredged with Wasa's backhoe dredger Optimus. The dredged material will be loaded in a self-propelled split hopper barges Boann and Sinann and dumped in the offshore appointed disposal area IV.

Lithuania Could Ban Russian Vessels from Its Ports

Lithuania's government will vote on Wednesday on whether to ban Russian vessels from its ports following the invasion of Ukraine, the BNS news agency reported on Wednesday."Ships sailing under an aggressor flag will have no place in the Klaipeda port," Lithuanian Transport Minister Marius Skuodis told BNS, referring to the country's main port.The ban would affect ships sailing under Russian flag or with any other connections to Russia, its people or companies, BNS reported.(Reporting by Andrius Sytas, writing by Terje Solsvik, editing by Gwladys Fouche)

Lukashenko Expects Russia to Build a Port for Belarus Potash Exports

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko expects Russia to build a new Baltic Sea port for exports of Belarusian potash which were hit by Western sanctions, he said on Friday after he met Russian President Vladimir Putin.The two leaders met as Russia held military exercises in Belarus as part of a buildup of troops near Ukraine that has prompted Western warnings of an imminent Russian invasion. Moscow denies any such plan and says such warnings are dangerous.Belarus' state-owned Belaruskali is the world's second largest producer of the crop nutrient potash.

DFDS' Newbuild Aura Seaways Arrives in Europe

Danish shipping company DFDS said its first newbuild vessel in 30 years has arrived in Europe following a long voyage from the Chinese shipyard Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI).The new ship, Aura Seaways, is the first in a series of two new roll-on, roll-off passenger ferries built by GSI for DFDS. Danish shipping company DFDS said it has taken delivery of Aura Seaway, the first in a series of two new roll-on, roll-off passenger ferries from Chinese shipbuilder Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI).The 230-meter-long newbuild, now on its way to Europe, is the first newbuild passenger vessel contracted by DFDS since Scandinavia was delivered in 1982.With 4,500 lane meters and capacity for 600 passengers, the new vessel is by far DFDS' largest RoPax ferry in terms of cargo capacity.

Helsinki Shipyard Lays Keel for Swan Hellenic's New Cruise Ship

The keel laying ceremony for the first of Swan Hellenic’s two new ice-class expedition cruise ships took place in Helsinki today. This saw the first 347-ton block of the ship – newly arrived from Klaipeda, where it had been outfitted and painted – being set on the keel over coins to bring good luck in accordance with ancient maritime custom.Swan Hellenic announced during the ceremony that the ship would be christened SH Minerva in honor of the company’s first purpose-built vessel, named after the Roman goddess of creativity and wisdom.

Belarus Buys 80,000 Tonnes of U.S. Oil

KN Bags $148Mn Loan for its LNG Terminal

The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) and Lithuanian liquefied natural gas (LNG) and oil terminal operator AB 'Klaipedos Nafta' (KN) have signed a EUR 134.1 million (USD 148 million) loan agreement to optimize costs of LNG terminal.The 25-year maturity loan will be directed to finance the rent payable for the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU).“Through this loan agreement we are continuing to support Lithuania´s security of energy supply, a strategically important objective for our member country”, said Henrik Normann, NIB President & CEO.Currently, the FSRU used for LNG import to Lithuania is leased from the Norwegian Höegh LNG on a ten-year arrangement that expires in 2024.

KN Appoints Darius Silenskis as CEO

Lithuania-based  oil and LNG terminal operator KlaipÄ—dos nafta (KN) appointed Darius Silenskis as the new CEO. Until now, D. Silenskis held the position of director of KN Oil business.The selection procedure of the new CEO was carried out by Independent Board of KN in cooperation with international executive search companies applying the best corporate governance practices. 26 candidates applied for the position, said the operator of the KlaipÄ—da Oil Terminal.D. Silenskis has been working for KN for the last five years. Until now he held the position of Director of KN Oil Business, before that – Director of the Commerce. Before KN, D. Estonia's Eesti Energia to Import Novatek Gas

Lithuanian liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal operator Klaipedos Nafta (KN) is partnering with the market leaders in the tender procedure for the design, construction and operation of the Cyprus LNG import terminal.The operator of the Klaipėda Oil Terminal submitted the bid alongside consortium partners Samsung C&T, Posco E&C, Mitsui O.S.K. Klaipeda LNG in Full Capacity

Nauticor Acquires World's Biggest LNG Bunkering Ship

AB Klaipedos nafta (KN), the operator of oil products and liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, and the German company Nauticor GmbH & Co. have agreed on the sale of KN’s 10% stake in the charter contract of Kairos, the world’s largest LNG bunker supply vessel to Nauticor.This leaves the world's biggest LNG bunkering vessel at Nauticor's disposal. The transfer shall become effective as of 30 September 2019, said a press release.World’s largest LNG bunker supply vessel Kairos started operations in Q4/2019. Kairos, owned by Babcock Schulte Energy, is charterd by Blue LNG, a joint venture between Nauticor (90%) and KN (10%). The joint venture partners decided to sell transfer KN’s share in Blue LNG to Nauticor. The transfer shall become effective as of September 30 th, 2019.

Port of Kiel: More than 2.2 mln Passengers This Year

The economic importance of nautical tourism for Schleswig-Holstein is continuing to increase. More than 2.2 million passengers are expected in the port of Kiel alone this year, forecasting record numbers like 600,000 cruise passengers and 1.6 million ferry travelers.Last year, passengers generated a turnover of about 68 million Euros in Kiel. The consumer spending of the port’s ferry passengers amounts to more than 53 million Euros. These are complemented by another 15 million Euros spent by cruise passengers and the crews.

Kairos Begins Operations in Northwest Europe
