Oceans '13 MTS/IEEE San Diego Preview

Heeding the call to join “An Ocean in Common,” authors flooded the Oceans ‘13 MTS/IEEE San Diego technical program committee with a record number of abstracts in a single day. Special topics include an Ultra-deep track discussing current and prospective robotic technologies, plus a panel of scientists to consider research questions. Oceans2013 Chair Bob Wernli, and Co-Chair Kevin Hardy, developer of the unmanned landers for James Cameron’s DeepSea Challenge Expedition, will be the session conveners. “James’ intention is to be certain the door remains open to other explorers,” Hardy said.

Klein’s System 3900 at OceanTech Expo

L-3 Klein Wins Port Security Deal

L-3 Klein Associates, Inc. received an order from the Los Angeles Harbor Department for multiple L-3 Klein System 5500 dynamically focused Multi-Beam Side Scan Sonar Systems. Harbor and Port Security professionals with the use of dual L-3 Klein Side Scan Sonar Systems are able to identify potential underwater threats, such as Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), to commercial shipping. Captain Michael Graychik of the Los Angeles Port Police said, “We are excited to be one of the first civilian Law Enforcement agencies to use this technology.

Klein Launches Model 3000 Side Scan Sonar

Klein Associates, Inc., has begun full- scale production of the advanced Model 3000 Side Scan Sonar. The all digital, single-beam system is a result of the extensive application of new technologies used to develop the transducers and circuitry, along with incorporating designs from Klein's field proven Model 5000 Multi-Beam Focused Sonar system. The system features superior imagery at long ranges, dual (100 & 500 kHz) frequencies, a standard depth rating to 1,500 meters, modularity for mounting to various platforms, and portability. It is completely software driven on a PC platform employing Klein's SonarPro(tm) software. SonarPro(tm) is a custom designed acquisition program developed by experienced users for ease of use by both experienced and inexperienced operators.

U.S. Army Awards Klein Navigation, Conley Associates With Raytheon Contract

Klein Navigation, a division of Klein Associates, Inc., announced that after successful sea trials aboard the USAV JAMES A LOUX, LSV-6, the U.S. Army awarded a second contract to Klein Navigation and Conley Associates, Inc. for a complete Raytheon Integrated Navigation System for the USAV General Brehon Somervell, LSV-3. The Raytheon Integrated Navigation System provided by Klein Navigation and Conley Associates for LSV-6 consists of the: Raytheon IMO approved dual MK2 ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) complete with multiple Electronic Chart Navigation data bases including C-Map and NIMA and Ethernet interface for network exchange of route and ENC information…

L-3 Klein Associates Wins Finnish Navy Contract

L-3 Klein Associates, Inc. was recently awarded a contract for the Finnish Navy which will include three Klein System 5000 high resolution, dynamically focused, multi-beam side scan sonars. The sonars will be part of a suite of sensors that will be installed on the Finnish Navy MCMV 2010 Program. The MCMV 2010 class mine countermeasure vessel is a series of three future multi-purpose mine countermeasure vessels which will be launched in 2010-2012, and will reach operational readiness by 2015. One Klein System 5000 will be delivered annually in 2009, 2010, and 2011. These systems were sold through EIVA a/s, Denmark who has vast experience in design and integration of customized system solutions for applications within the offshore, hydrographic and marine survey industry.

L-3 Appoints Morton as Sales Manager

L-3 Communications announced that its Klein Associates, Inc. division (L-3 Klein) has appointed Rick Morton as Sales Manager for their Side Scan Sonar Systems. Working with other members of the Klein team, Mr. Morton will be responsible for implementing Klein’s strategy to multiply its sales of domestic and international Side Scan and Multi-Beam Sonar Systems. With over 10 years experience in hydrographic and oceanographic markets, both as a salesman and in the field, Mr. Morton is ideally suited to further expand and enhance Klein’s valued customer network. Mr. Morton was most recently with Reson, Inc. in Goleta, CA as an Area Sales Manager responsible for Multi-beam and Single beam Sonar sales in the eastern half of North America.
