Kongsberg Maritime is working with Norwegian shipping company Østensjo and the Norwegian Marine Technology Research Institute (Marintek) on a new research and development project for operations using motion compensated and telescopic gangways, typically found on accommodation vessels in the offshore sector. Ocean Rig UDW Inc. has chosen Kongsberg Maritime to supply an extensive offshore and navigation simulator package for a brand new training center. With a sophisticated integrated simulator suite, enabling specific operations and vessel team training, Ocean Rig’s new facility, is shaping up to become one of the world’s most advanced offshore training centers, Kongsberg Maritime said. Ocean Rig owns and operates two ultra-deepwater semisubmersible drilling rigs and nine ultra-deepwater drillships (including three newbuilds for delivery 2014-2016).

Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) has selected Kongsberg Maritime’s K-Sim Offshore simulation platform to enhance crane operator training and the safe, efficient implementation of heavy lift operations. With the contract signed on May 21, 2014, delivery of what Kongsberg said will become the world’s most advanced offshore heavy lift crane simulator is planned for September 2015. The Regional Maritime University (RMU) has awarded Kongsberg Maritime a contract to deliver its K-Sim Engine simulator for its premises in Accra, Ghana. The highly advanced Full Mission Engine Room Simulator (ERS), which is due for delivery in May 2014 will enable RMU to provide education according to STCW requirements. A new Multi-Purpose Kongsberg Maritime Polaris ship’s bridge simulator has become a key coastal and port development resource for The Instituto Mexicano del Transporte (IMT) following the opening of its new research facility in August 2013. Based in Queretaro, Mexico, IMT is the leading Research Center for Ports and Coasts in Mexico. The organization is using its new Polaris simulator, which was ordered in April 2013, within its maritime research, development and project planning activities.

Kongsberg Maritime was selected by BAE and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to provide a custom engine room simulator for the training of engineers aboard Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Canberra Class Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) vessels. The new LHD Engineering System Trainer (LEST) is designed to enhance the Navy’s ability to train LHD vessel engineering personnel, an important and critical factor in operational availability. The LEST project is scheduled for delivery February 2013, and will include both full mission and desktop simulation systems, with integrated e-Learning facilities.

Kongsberg Maritime's Simulation division has recently signed a new contract with Bodin Maritime School for an extensive upgrade of its existing engine room simulator. The upgrade will make the school the most modern and comprehensive engine room simulator facility in Norway, with the ability to offer a range of exercises for training and courses on different levels. STC-Group has signed a contract with simulation developer Kongsberg Maritime to supply extensive upgrades to its large suite of simulators. The contract consists of sophisticated extensions and upgrades to the group's Kongsberg Maritime full mission and part task ship's bridge simulators and its full mission engine room simulator. Kongsberg Maritime's simulation division and Vestfold University College has signed a framework agreement to further explore activities and projects of joint interest within research and development of maritime simulators from an innovation and human factor perspective. The agreement which was signed 22nd December 2010 comprises extensive R&D project plans and the use of an Interactive Simulator Laboratory (SIMSAM lab) at Vestfold University College, which will serve as a R&D facility. The agreement will include several R&D projects involving maritime simulators in different aspects.

The installation of a new suite of navigation simulators has been completed at the all-new Great Barrier Reef International Marine College (GBRIMC) in Cairns, Australia. Installation took place in January 2011 and consisted of a 270 degree DNV Class A full mission bridge simulator, a 180 degree tug bridge, 8 destktop navlab stations with part task simulators for ECDIS training and an instructor station. The simulator delivery features exercise area databases of Australia's busiest ports.

Warship handling and anti-piracy training capabilities boost for RAN. The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) opened its recently upgraded ship's bridge simulator training facility at HMAS Watson in Sydney on 25th March 2011. Featuring a host of new full mission and desktop simulators from Kongsberg Maritime, the new facility represents one of the most advanced naval training centres in the world and will be used by RAN cadets to learn to pilot the next generation of warships, alongside a wide range of critical training applications, including anti-piracy.
