GTT LNG Carrier Orders at Record Highs

Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT), a company specialised in the design of membrane containment systems for maritime transportation and storage of liquefied gas, said its business activity was marked by a number of successes during the first nine months of 2019, particularly in the field of LNG carriers.In addition to the 26 orders for LNG carriers booked during the first half of the year, there were an additional 14 bookings in the third quarter of 2019, i.e. a total of 40 LNG carrier orders during the first nine months of 2019.GTT's core business activity is, therefore, at a particularly high level. All of the carriers will be equipped with GTT's recent technologies (Mark III Flex+, Mark III Flex and NO96 GW).

Jotun Signs Agreement with HHI

Norwegian paints and coatings company Jotun Group announced that  it signed a memorandum of understanding with the world’s largest shipyards for a new type of marine paint that reduces solvent emissions by up to 90 percent.A memorandum of understanding has been signed with Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). This is the starting point of a closer cooperation and the use of a new, innovative solvent-free primer.The signing took place between Jotun's chairman Odd Gleditch (Jr). and HHI's Chief Executive Ka Sam-Hyun during the South Korean President's state visit to Norway in June. Containership Bremen Express Named

Hapag-Lloyd is naming the containership Bremen Express in Bremerhaven. The patron of the 335m long mega containership capable of carrying 8,749 standard containers is Hilde Herwig, wife of Thomas W. Herwig, managing partner of the long-established Bremen logistics company Röhlig. With its Bremen Express, Hapag-Lloyd has expanded its fleet to 142 containerships with a total capacity of over 514,000 TEU. It has ordered another 15 identical vessels from the South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries for delivery up the end of 2011. Hapag-Lloyd, which is one of the top five container lines worldwide, is thus preparing to share in the long-term growth in international container transport.

A.P. Moller Places Tanker Order

A.P. Moller has placed an order for four product tankers with Guongzhou Shipyard International in Hong Kong. Including options, the contract brings the number of new product tankers ordered by A.P. Moeller up to 16. Three vessels in this series had already been delivered and put into traffic. The four new 34,999 dwt product tankers to be built by Guongzhou will have a capacity volume of 39,900 cu. m each and are to be delivered in 2001. A.P. Moller also confirmed an earlier reported order for a new jack-up oilrig. The rig, to be built by South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, would be the biggest of its kind in the world. The 25,700-ton oilrig with capacity to drill in water depths of up to 150 m will be delivered in summer 2002. The order was reported to be worth $300 million.

Hapag-Lloyd Orders 3 Mega Containerships

Length 335m, width 43m, capacity over 100,000t for 8,600 standard containers – those are the key dimensions of the three containership newbuildings ordered today by Hapag-Lloyd. The vessels will be built by the South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries. The first ship in the series will be delivered at the end of 2007 and the remaining two in 2008. Newbuildings must be ordered well in advance, as world production capacities for very large containerships are utilized up to 2008. Such a vessel then takes only about nine months to build. SCI Floats JVs To Foray Into New Ventures

RTTNews reported that Shipping Corporation of India has floated four joint venture companies for its proposed foray into shipbuilding, container terminal operation, dredging and offshore services. The government-owned ship owner is in final negotiations with South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries for the shipbuilding JV. The company has also inked with Mediterranean Shipping Company - MSC - along with two other public sector majors, namely, Container Corporation of India - Concor - and Central Warehousing Corporation - CWC - to set up container terminals. SCI disclosed that it has short listed three companies for the venture, in which Hyundai is one among them. SCI has already evinced interest in building two mega shipyards proposed by the government.

Latvia Shipping Asks Hyundai To Extend Tanker Deal

State-owned Latvian Shipping has asked South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries to extend the deadline for signing a $200 million tanker order because of political delays. Latvian Shipping is in the process of having a 44 percent stake sold off. It must receive approval for the shipping deal from the Latvian privatization body - a process, which has been bogged down in political infighting. A deadline for signing a deal with South Korean expires on Oct. 22. "We have asked for an extension, but have not received a response yet,"a Latvian Shipping spokeswoman said. The Privatization Agency board was expected to send the issue for a review to its council, a body of MPs, supervising the selloff process, an agency spokesman said.
