KOTUG to Operate Dual-fuel Methanol Tugs on Canada’s West Coast

In 2021, Trans Mountain, on behalf of shippers for the Trans Mountain Expansion Project (TMEP), awarded KOTUG Canada Inc. a long-term contract to provide escort towage services for tankers that load crude oil at Trans Mountain’s Westridge Marine Terminal.Trans Mountain operates Canada’s only oil pipeline servicing the West Coast of Canada providing tidewater access to foreign markets for Canada’s petroleum resources.Under the agreement, KOTUG Canada, which is a partnership between KOTUG International B.V.

Kotug to Install Shift's PwrSwäp Batteries

KOTUG International B.V. and Shift Clean Energy announced the formation of a partnership to use Shift’s new PwrSwäp clean energy service—which uses swappable batteries on a pay-as-you-go basis—on KOTUG’s E-Pusher vessels.The signing of the MoU coincides with COP26 in Glasgow, where reducing global greenhouse gases (GHGs) is at the top of the agenda. The combined services support the maritime industry in reaching this goal today, without requiring any upfront capital costs and at competitive rates, the partners said.Shift’s technologies provide a ready to market pay-as-you-go service.

KOTUG Starts Ops in Gabon with Perenco Contract

KOTUG International B.V. (KOTUG) won a long-term contract by Perenco Oil & Gas Gabon S.A. (Perenco) to provide towage support for their operations off Port Gentil, Gabon. The contract includes the chartering, operation and manning of three vessels, two of which are Kotug’s first-ever Rotor Tugs, the RT Magic and RT Spirit.RT Magic and RT Spirit will set sail to Gabon to support Perenco Oil & Gas in optimizing their marine spread thereby providing cost savings  simultaneously with redundancy in operations.

KOTUG, Boskalis Begin Harbor Towage Joint Venture

KOTUG International B.V. and Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. have formalized a joint venture for the companies’ European harbor towage operations. The joint operations are transferred to a 50/50 joint venture, combining the European harbor towage activities of KOTUG and Boskalis’ subsidiary SMIT. The merged operations will operate under the entity KOTUG SMIT Towage, with operational integration beginning April 7, 2016. With a fleet of 65 tugboats, KOTUG SMIT Towage will provide harbor towage services in northwestern Europe, operating in 11 ports in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and U.K.

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) and KOTUG International B.V. (KOTUG) have reached agreement on the merger of their European harbour towage operations. The Memorandum of Understanding signed by the parties in late 2014 has now been formalized following a thorough process. The combined operations will be transferred to a 50/50 joint venture bringing together the European harbour towage activities of SMIT, a Boskalis subsidiary, and KOTUG. The operations will continue under the name KOTUG SMIT Towage. Boskalis, KOTUG Merge Harbor Towage Operations

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. and KOTUG International B.V. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to merge the companies’ European harbor towage operations. The companies will establish a 50/50 joint venture for this purpose, combining the European harbor towage activities of SMIT, a Boskalis subsidiary, with the European harbor towage activities of KOTUG. This merger is the concluding step in Boskalis' strategy aimed at establishing regional partnerships for its harbor towage activities, as was previously done through Smit Lamnalco, Keppel SMIT and most recently SAAM SMIT.

Steel Cut on First of Three ISVs for KT Maritime

A steel cutting ceremony held last week at the Singapore shipyard of partner company, ASL Shipyard Pte Ltd. marked the start of construction for the first of three infield support vessels (ISVs) being constructed by Perth-based KT Maritime Services Australia Pty Ltd to support Shell’s Prelude FLNG project near Broome. KT Maritime Services Australia Director, Mark Thomas, said this major contract for the design, construction and operation of the three 42-meter, 100-metric-tonne bollard-pull ISVs at the Prelude site 475km north-north east of Broome was a major milestone for the company.

The KO-LINK ring significantly increases synthetic towing line service life by preventing the HMPE pennant from cutting through the line. KO-LINK is a highly polished, lightweight, aluminum ring, which is inserted and attached to the splice eye of the towline. The KO-LINK ring significantly increases synthetic towing line service life by preventing the HMPE pennant from cutting through the line. KO-LINK is a highly polished, lightweight, aluminium ring, which is inserted and attached to the splice eye of the towline. The ring connects the main towline and the pennant in such a way that a controlled weak link is created, preventing towing-line overload. Moreover, the KO-LINK replaces the commonly used cow-hitch knot, which if poorly made can cause unequal loading on the eyes resulting in premature line failure.

Robert Allan Sign Tugboat Design Contracts in Netherlands

Robert Allan Ltd informs of the signing of two contracts during a recent Canadian Trade Mission to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The first signing covered the new ART 80-32, designed by Robert Allan Ltd. and incorporating a hybrid propulsion system developed by Aspin Kemp & Associates (AKA). The vessels are under construction at the Damen Shipyard in Poland and will enter the KOTUG fleet later this year. The second signing covered the recently awarded contract for three offshore Rotor tugs, destined for service at the Shell “Prelude” FLNG facility off the coast of Northern Western Australia.

KT Vessels to Support Shell’s Prelude FLNG

Shell Australia has awarded a major contract for the design, construction and operation of three Infield Support Vessels (ISVs), which will create approximately 80 local jobs and support its Prelude FLNG Project, located 475km north-north east of Broome, in Western Australia. Perth-based KT Maritime Services Australia Pty Ltd, a joint venture partnership with KOTUG International B.V and Teekay Shipping Australia Pty Ltd, will supply three 42-meter, 100-metric-ton bollard-pull vessels to assist in product offloading during the operations phase of the project.

Kotug Prepares Organization for Further Growth

Kotug International B.V, the well known provider of harbour towage services in Rotterdam Hamburg and Bremerhaven, have announced the appointment of two professionals to join its team. Mr Dorus Knegtel, a director of the company will be responsible for strategic issues and Business Development. Quality and safety of the operations will also fall under his direction. Mr Kommer Tanis, as a member of the management team, will coordinate the salvage and offshore operations of the group and give nautical/technical and operational support in Business Development. “These appointments underline the commitment of the shareholders to pursue growth of the activities, while consolidating and optimising the present successful operations”, says Ard-Jan Kooren, president of the group.

Two Tugs Christened in Germany

Kotug International BV said that the last two out of a series of four Rotortugs have been christened by Kotug International BV during a small ceremony in the port of Hamburg last weekend. The 65 tons bollard pull RT Antonie and RT Zoë were built at the ASL Marine Shipyard in Singapore through Kooren Shipbuilding and Trading BV the holder of the successful Rotortug patent. The RT Antonie is named after the nephew of Kotug's CEO Ard-Jan Kooren and was christened by sponsor lady Anne Lusher, wife of Martin Lusher, partner with SSY in London and representative for Kotug International BV. The RT Zoë is named after the sponsor lady Zoë Kooren daughter of Ard-Jan and Chrisje Kooren. The RT Antonie is the 7th tug in the Kotug fleet in the port of Bremerhaven.
