Sometimes, a change in a vessel's operational profile requires considerable modernization or retrofitting of its propulsion system in order for the vessel to remain fit for purpose. And in some cases, newly required thruster performance features can be achieved with the help of modifications that preserve most of the existing units.Earlier this year, the Croatian ferry Krk operated by the national Jadrolinija shipping company, was retrofitted to cater for a new route with stronger winds and currents.

Technology group Wärtsilä has been contracted to extend the capacity of the regasification system installed onboard the LNG Croatia with a new regasification module. The 280-meter-long floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) vessel is owned by Zagreb-based LNG Hrvatska, and acts as the company’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on Krk island. The new module will supplement the vessel’s existing onboard Wärtsilä regasification system and increase the terminal’s capacity with 212 mmscfd (million standard cubic feet per day) or 250,000 m3 per hour.

Croatia Extends LNG Terminal Gas Bidding Deadline

A deadline for bids on output from a planned offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal to be built on Croatia's northern Adriatic island of Krk has been extended until Sept. 28, developers LNG Croatia said on Friday.Demand will dictate the capacity of the 250 million euro terminal, which is part of EU-led efforts to diversify away from Russian energy imports. The deadline on bidding for output was Aug. 3 but was delayed on requests from potential customers who are still in negotiations, LNG Croatia said. The European Commission this week said it had earmarked 124 million euros for the project which will supply gas to countries in eastern and central Europe…

Croatia Reopens Bidding for LNG Terminal Capacity

LNG Hrvatska launched a second round of bidding for potential operators of an offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Croatia's northern Adriatic on Friday, after the previous round drew little interest.Last week, Croatia's parliament passed a law to enable the construction of the terminal, part of a European Union drive to diversify away from Russian gas imports. The project, which will be built on the island of Krk will be partly funded by the EU but has been criticised by environmental groups and local councils.LNG Hrvatska, the company behind the project which is expected to be operational in 2020 or 2021, said interested…

Croatia will pass a special law to speed up the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the northern Adriatic, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Thursday. Croatia produces more than half of its gas consumption, some 2.5 billion cubic metres (bcm) a year. Once the LNG terminal is built it hopes to be able to supply both its own market as well as central and eastern European countries. "Our aim (is) to pass a special law as a key message that it is a strategic project for us.

Croatia Invites Bids for LNG Terminal Project

LNG Croatia, the project developer of the LNG import terminal on the Island of Krk in Croatia, has called for bids for the provision of a floating storage & regasification unit (FSRU). The bids for EPC and FSRU procurement, setting a 29 September deadline for submissions will  revive Croatia’s long-stalled plans to diversify its energy supply and reduce its dependence on piped gas from Russia. LNG Hrvatska says it is inviting bids in two separate tenders for the delivery of a FSRU and procurement of civil engineering works. The FSRU delivery contract will include the provision of operation and maintenance services, LNG Hrvatska said.

Croatian FLNG Terminal Delayed

Croatia's FLNG terminal in the northern Adriatic will take a year longer to complete than initially expected, reports Reuters. The capacity of the terminal, now expected to be finished in 2019, is seen at around 2 billion m3 of gas a year, with Croatia targeting central European markets as well as domestic. The terminal, to be built on the northern Adriatic island of Krk, is among projects the EU sees as important to its efforts to enhance energy security and reduce dependence on Russian gas. Meanwhile, Hina reported quoting LNG Croatia that activities on the construction of a floating LNG terminal on the island of Krk are going according to plan and there should be no reason for it falling behind schedule.

Croatia's Floating LNG Terminal Due in 2018

Croatia could complete its 2 billion cubic metre per year floating LNG facility in 2018, Economy Minister Tomislav Panenic said. In an interview with Reuters Tomislav said that Croatia intends to complete the construction of a floating LNG terminal in the northern Adriatic by 2018, and the initial capacity would be about two billion cubic metres of gas annually. "That does not mean giving up on the land terminal, but at this point we believe that we can ensure the stability of the market with a floating terminal",  he said. The original plans included a land terminal with a capacity of six billion cubic metres of gas with the aim of supplying the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

Croatia May Choose FLNG Terminal

According to Reuters, Croatia may decide to construct a floating LNG (FLNG) vessel for the northern Adriatic – as opposed to an onshore liquefaction plant – in order to begin operations sooner. At the moment, it is unclear what would become of the plans for a land-based terminal on the northern Adriatic island, Krk. So far, seven non-binding bids from both industrial and financial investors have been made for the onshore project. Croatian First Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko met in Zagreb with Amos J. Hochstein, the special envoy and coordinator for international energy issues at the US State Department, reports tportal.hr on March 2, 2016.

Croatia Seeks Investors to Develop Adriatic LNG Terminal

Croatia's power utility HEP and gas transmission system operator Plinacro on Tuesday invited investors to express interest in building a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the northern Adriatic, part of the country's drive for energy independence. The terminal on the island of Krk is also part of Europe's wider efforts to reduce its reliance on Russian energy supplies and has gained new importance following the cancellation of the South Stream project. It is aimed at receiving, storing and re-gasifying LNG, with a nominal capacity of 6 billion cubic metres. HEP and Plinacro, in a joint venture named LNG Croatia, said potential investors should submit their letters of interest for joining the project as soon as possible.

Croatia Mulls LNG Facility

A floating terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Croatia would lower energy prices both for households and the business sector, Croatian President  Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic said. The country’s key energy project is still the liquefied natural gas terminal on the Island of Krk, but a floating LNG facility is an option, Kolinda said. She added that Croatia can learn a lot from the Baltic countries. She recently met with the Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė who supported the LNG terminal in Croatia. She shared Lithuania’s experience in building an import LNG terminal with her Croatian counterpart. When asked about the possibility of a floating LNG terminal…

Croatia Resurrects LNG terminal Plans

Croatia prepares financial plan for LNG terminal; EU sees the Krk terminal helping Europe's energy independence. Croatia has reopened a feasibility study for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the northern Adriatic which should help diversify energy supplies for central Europe, economy minister Ivan Vrdoljak said on Tuesday. The idea is to make the terminal on the island of Krk the southern end of a gas pipeline corridor connecting Croatia and Poland's Baltic port of Swinoujscie to help diversify gas supply routes for central Europe and cut dependence on Russian imports. "The potential LNG terminal on Krk has been recognised by the European Commission as an important project for the European Union's energy independence.
