VLGC for Astomos Energy Named

A naming ceremony was held in Kumamoto Prefecture at the Ariake Shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation for a new VLGC (very large gas carrier) that NYK will charter under a long-term contract to Astomos Energy Corporation,  pre-eminent liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) company.The ship was named “Lily Promenade” by Kazuhisa Otsuka, senior operating officer of Astomos Energy Corporation, and the ceremonial rope holding the vessel in place was cut by Mariko Kurokawa of Astomos.

Ocean Network Express Unveils AOCTEL

Ocean Network Express (ONE), a Japanese container shipping company that is headquartered in Tokyo and Singapore, has announced the establishment of the Advanced Ocean Container Transportation Engineering Lab (AOCTEL), a stowage planning hub in Kumamoto, Japan.The office was founded by Kozo Keikaku Engineering Inc (KKE) for Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha five years ago. Hitachi Gas Supply System Order for MHI

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has received an order from Hitachi Zosen Corporation for a high-pressure gas supply system enabling use of natural gas as fuel in marine engines. In lieu of conventional heavy oil, the system supplies liquefied natural gas (LNG), injected under high pressure, to the engine. This configuration curbs emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2), thus contributing to reduction of environmental loads. Delivery of the system is scheduled for the second half of 2016, for installation at Hitachi Zosen's Ariake Works in Nagasu-machi, Kumamoto Prefecture. NYK Opens New Planning Center in Kumamoto

On September 1, 2014, NYK and Kozo Keikaku Engineering Inc. established a stowage planning center for container shipping at the Kumamoto office of Kozo Keikaku Engineering Inc. in Ozu town, Kumamoto prefecture, Japan. The task of container stowage planning will be transferred from NYK’s office in Singapore by the end of March 2015. The new center in Kumamoto will play a central role in the stowage planning of NYK’s containerships in the Asian region, in addition to cooperation with container terminals at calling ports. Hong Kong Bans Import of Kumamoto Poultry

Hong Kong’s Center for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today, April 14, that in view of a notification from the Japanese authorities about an outbreak of high-pathogenic H5 avian influenza on a broiler farm in Kumamoto Prefecture, it has banned the import of poultry and poultry products, including poultry eggs, from the prefecture with immediate effect for the protection of Hong Kong's public and animal health. First Order Received For ME Engine in Japan

Hitachi Zosen Corp. has received an order for a Hitachi-MAN B&W ME engine. The order, for a 6S50ME-C,was placed by shipowner Nissho Shipping Co. Ltd., and is the first ME engine ordered in Japan. The shipbuilder is Naikai Zosen and the ME engine will be delivered in February 2004. The ME engine will be manufactured by Hitachi Zosen Diesel and Engineering Co., Ltd. Koike), based on a license agreement with MAN B&W Diesel A/S in Denmark. MAN B&W began the development of electronically controlled engines in 1987, and in 1991 it started an electronic control project for developing “Intelligent Engines”. Meanwhile, Hitachi Zosen commenced basic research on hydraulic pressure-driven fuel oil pressure boosting devices and exhaust gas valve control, without the use of a camshaft, around 1985.
