WinGD Launches Two-stroke Marine Engine with Integrated NOx Abatement System

Hanjin-chartered Ships Sold, More on Block

Three bulk carriers sold charter-free at about market rates. Two Hanjin container ships also up for sale. Three ships chartered to Hanjin Shipping Co Ltd have been sold and two more vessels are up for sale, ship brokers said on Wednesday, kicking off an asset sale sparked by the failure of the world's seventh largest container shipper. Around $14 billion of cargo has been tied up globally as ports, tugboat operators and cargo handling firms worried about not being paid refuse to work for Hanjin, which filed for receivership in a Seoul court on Aug 31. While some ships have been offloaded since then, bottlenecks are forming at some ports and truck yards as containers pile up.

Epic Gas Continues Fleet Expansion, to Open London Office

Singapore-based Epic Gas Ltd. say that following their recent order of two LPG 11,000cbm vessels from Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation in Japan, it will add two more similar-sized newbuilds to its expanding fleet. These two 11,000 cbm vessels will be long term bareboat chartered in from Kumiai Senpaku Co., Ltd., of Japan. Japanese Shipowners Celebrate North P&I Club’s Tokyo Opening

Over 100 representatives of the Japanese shipping community attended a reception in Tokyo on March 27 to celebrate the opening of North P&I club’s new branch office Japan. Located in Tokyo’s central Kyobashi commercial district, the new office complements the A-rated 170 million GT club’s existing Asia-Pacific branches in Hong Kong and Singapore. Nobutaka Mukae, president of Kumiai Senpaku – one of Japan’s leading independent shipowners, was a guest speaker at the reception, which took place at the Imperial Hotel in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. He formally welcomed North to Japan and wished the club every success for the future. Other Japanese members attending included IMECS, Kambara Kisen, Northstar, NYK, Sandigan, Synergy and Unitra Maritime.

North P&I Opens Tokyo Office

North P&I Club Reinforces Position in Asia-Pacific Region with New Branch in Tokyo. The ‘A’ rated 150 million GT North P&I club is about to consolidate its position in the Asia-Pacific region following approval from the Japanese government to open a branch office in Tokyo. The new office is due to start operating in the next few months and will complement the club’s existing Asia-Pacific branches in Hong Kong and Singapore. Located in the central Kyobashi commercial district in Tokyo, the Japanese branch will be led by general manager Kunio Fukumoto. He formerly worked with Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group and brings more than 30 years of senior-level marine underwriting experience to the club.
