New Device Protects Against RF Interference and Jamming

NovAtel, part of technology company Hexagon, has unveiled a new GPS Anti-Jam Technology (GAJT) device amid heightened interference and jamming in marine environments worldwide. The low size, weight and power (SWaP) GAJT-410MS is designed to protect civil and military operations from interference and jamming, with jammer direction-finding capabilities for enhanced situation awareness in the marine environment.Interference, both benign and malicious, is a challenge facing civilian and military operations.

STS Cranes For Liverpool2 Arrive

A giant vessel bearing five ‘megamax’ quayside cranes sailed up the River Mersey yesterday destined for the new Liverpool2 container terminal, completing the final stage of its voyage from China. The cranes originally set off from Shanghai in August passing south-east Asia, India, the Arabian Peninsula and Africa via the Cape of Good Hope en route to Liverpool in a journey of over 30,000km (18,000m, 16,400nm). The super-structures were produced by Chinese company, Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co (ZPMC), the largest heavy duty equipment manufacturer in the world, as part of a contract with Peel Ports worth over £100m. The offshore oil and gas industry uses Floating Production, Storage and Off-loading (FPSO) vessels to process and store gas or oil until it can be unloaded onto tankers or forwarded through a pipeline. Leistritz Screw Pumps are responsible for boosting the produced water into a hydro cyclone where the remaining oil and sand will be extracted. Fugro Launches Seastar XP2

Fugro Satellite Positioning released its Seastar XP2 PPP GNSS augmentation service on July 1, 2014, which provides increased redundancy for mission-critical offshore GNSS position and navigation applications. Like Fugro’s flagship Seastar G2 service, XP2 is an L1/L2, phase-based, Orbit and Clock PPP service. Similar to the 24+ American GPS satellites, XP2 incorporates a number of Russian GLONASS satellites to generate corrections that permit the calculation of a real-time position solution. The new XP2 service mimics Fugro’s flagship G2 and offers accuracies approaching it.

Safe Boats Awarded Big Navy Construction Contract

U.S. Department of Defense informs that Safe Boats International, LLC, Bremerton, Washington, is being awarded a US$34,518,536 firm-fixed-price contract for the construction of four MK VI Patrol Boats. This contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the total cumulative value of this contract to $52,295,843. Work will be performed in Tacoma, Washington (82 percent); Kent, Washington (7 percent); Wichita, Kansas (6 percent); New Zealand (3 percent); and in Canada and Berwick, Louisiana (less than 2 percent), and is expected to be completed by March 2018. Fiscal 2013 and 2014 National Guard and Reserve Component equipment account funds in the amount of $34,518,536 will be obligated at the time of award. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

BMT Supports Port of Liverpool’s New Container Terminal Project

BMT has completed a series of studies for the Port of Liverpool’s new Seaforth Liverpool 2 (L2) Container Terminal Construction, which promises to bring 5,000 new jobs to the area. The new facility will provide capability for a further half a million containers, taking its total annual capacity to approximately two million TEUs. BMT subsidiary companies, BMT ARGOSS and BMT Isis were commissioned by Peel Ports to carry out a number of specialist studies to identify and assess the associated impacts of introducing larger vessels of up to 13,500 TEU to the proposed L2 development.

NAM to Divest Several Offshore Assets

Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM) intends to market a number of its offshore licenses, consisting of producing fields in the NOGAT area on the Dutch continental shelf. The producing fields are L2-FA, L2-FB, L5-FA, L12-FC and L15-FA, and the combined oil and gas producing F3-FB field. The fields and facilities to be divested are located in an area of the North Sea to the northwest of Den Helder and are interconnected by the NOGAT pipeline, through which natural gas is transported to the NAM operated processing plant at Den Helder. NAM also intends to divest its share in NOGAT. The intended transfer of ownership is part of NAM's long-term strategy.
