Gulf Energy Seals $927 Million Port Deal with Thai Government

Thai power producer Gulf Energy Development Pcl on Thursday said its consortium had signed a deal worth 30.9 billion baht ($927 million) with the country's port authority for construction and operation of container terminals.The firm, among the country's largest private power producers, is owned by Thai billionaire Sarath Ratanavadi and has been investing billions of dollars to expand its infrastructure business."Gulf will use accumulated experience in developing and managing large-scale infrastructure projects in Thailand and overseas to develop the port

CMA CGM Completes Sale of Eight Terminals

CMA CGM said on Thursday it has completed the sale of stakes in eight port terminals for $815 million to its joint venture with China Merchants Port Group.Late last year, CMA CGM reached a deal with China Merchants to sell stakes in 10 port terminals to the companies' Terminal Link venture for $968 million, as part of efforts by CMA CGM to finance its acquisition of Swiss-based CEVA Logistics and reduce group debt.The first eight terminals included in the transaction are Odessa Terminal (Ukraine)

Yang Ming to Launch New ITS Service

Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation said that encouraged by the steady economic growth and foreign trade in between Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, it  continues to enhance its Southeast Asia deployment with the new ITS service (Indonesia - Singapore/Malaysia - Thailand Service).The ITS service is set to be launched on November 12th, 2019, Yang Ming said.A total of three container ships with loadable capacity of 1,180 TEU each will be deployed for ITS service, of which one is contributed by Yang Ming. The full port rotation will be Singapore, Port Kelang, Semarang, Surabaya, Port Kelang

Yang Ming Launches Japan-Thailand Service

Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation enhances its Intra-Asia service network by launching a new Japan–Thailand service (JT1) effective from September 11th, 2019.The JT1 service will call at Shimizu, Tokyo, Yokohama, Pusan, Laem Chabang. It will directly link Laem Chabang with Japanese ports and Pusan.The new weekly service will be added to Yang Ming’s network through a space swap program with Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd.With the launch of JT1 complementing the existing two Japan–Thailand services, JTC and JTX, Yang Ming will provide customers with more convenient and reliable services between Japan and Thailand.Yang Ming will also launch a new service, East India and North Europe Express (code: IEX).

Massive TP's Shipped for Taiwan Windfarm

Jumbo reports completion of a shipment of the "heaviest, tallest and the largest diameter "Transition Pieces (TP’s) it has ever transported.The TP’s were shipped for Jan De Nul Group in cooperation with brokers Multi Marine Chartering B.V. from Laem Chabang to Taichung, where they will form part of Taiwan’s Formosa 1 Phase 2 Offshore Wind Farm (OWF).The Formosa 1 OWF will have a total capacity of 128MW once built and commissioned. Phase 1 of Formosa 1 features two Siemens 4MW demonstration turbines, the first ever wind turbines to be installed off Taiwan.

Yang Ming Enhances Network

Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has announced new China-Thailand direct service and Thailand - Indonesia express service.Under the impact of rising global trade tensions, a relocation and adjustment of cargo flow and supply chains is expected. To cope with this trend, Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. continuously strengthens its Asian service network as well as the quality of Asian routes.Yang Ming has announced the launch of a new Intra-Asia service, China-Thailand Service (CTX service). The first sailing is scheduled for July 12th 2019, departing from Shanghai.A total of three container ships with loadable capacity of 1,200 TEU will be deployed for CTX service, of which one is contributed by Yang Ming.

PIL Upgrades SE Asia - Aus Services

Singapore-based shipping company Pacific International Lines Pte Ltd (PIL) announced improvements to its Southeast Asia to Australia services to meet the changing needs of the markets.PIL's current Australia-Asia Alliance Service 1 and 2 (AA1 & AA2) will be upgraded to offer more competitive transit times and better port connections.The enhanced AA1 and AA2 services will cover all major ports in Australia with effect from early August, shipper said in a press note.Port rotations of AA1 will be Laem Chabang – Singapore –Melbourne – Sydney – Brisbane - Singapore – Laem Chabang. Commencement: 5th August 2019 at Laem Chabang.AA2: Singapore – Port Kelang –Fremantle – Sydney - Melbourne – Adelaide – Fremantle – Singapore.

APM Mulls Greenfield Terminal in Bangkok

The Hague-headquartered international container terminal operating company APM Terminals has signed a memorandum of understanding with Sahathai Terminal PLC (PORT) and Mitr Phol Sugar to develop a 345,000 TEU capacity greenfield container terminal in Bangkok, Thailand.According to a press release,  Bangkok River Terminal Limited (BRT) will accommodate Thailand’s rapidly-growing containerized import and export trade.Sahathai Terminal PLC (PORT), Thailand’s leading container terminal and logistics company formed a Joint Venture with Mitr Phol Sugar to develop this Container Terminal in October 2018. With over 35-years’ experience in Thailand with container operations in Lat Krabang and Laem Chabang, APM Terminals’ participation will further strengthen the joint venture.

Hutchison Opens Terminal D

Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT), the largest container terminal operator in Thailand, has officially opened Terminal D at Laem Chabang Port, , the most advanced deep-sea container terminal in the country.Dr. Pailin Chuchottaworn, Deputy Minister of Transport, presided together over the official opening of Terminal D at Laem Chabang Port. Alongside the Deputy Minister of Transport, representatives from government agencies, the private sectors and other distinguished guests were also in attendance.One of the most notable features of the new terminal is that it will be the first and only terminal at the Port to feature remote control technologies.Terminal

Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd. (ONE) has announced that ONE Grus, with a carrying capacity of 14,000 TEU, has been successfully delivered at Kure Shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation. The sublet owner is Nippon Yusen Kaisha. This is ONE’s first delivery this year, and the 5th newly built 14,000 TEU magenta containership, after ONE Columba (delivery date on November 16th, 2018). It is equipped with outstanding safety and environmentally-friendly capabilities such as structural arrest technology and highly efficient welding technology.

Hutchison Ports Thailand Welcomes M.V. ONE Columba's Maiden Call

Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT) recently welcomed M.V. ONE Columba, the largest vessel to ever call Terminal D at Laem Chabang Port. HPT’s new Terminal D played host to Ocean Network Express’ (ONE’s) M.V. ONE Columba.The vessel was met by delegates of Terminal D in the morning of 24 Nov, and the vessel departed Laem Chabang Port one day later. M.V. ONE Columba, with a total length of 364 meters and a total gross tonnage of 145,647 tons, it is the largest container vessel ever to call at Laem Chabang Port in Thailand. ONE Delivers 14,000-TEU Containership

Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd. (“ONE”) is has announced that ONE Columbia, with a carrying capacity of 14,000 TEU, has been successfully delivered at Kure Shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation. The sublet owner is Nippon Yusen Kaisha. This is ONE’s 4th newly built 14,000TEU magenta containership delivered this year, after ONE Stork (delivery date on 12th June 2018), ONE Minato (26th July 2018), and ONE Aquila (7th September 2018). Currently, 3 more vessels in ONE’s order book are in the construction process and expected delivery is in 2019.ONE Columbia

ExxonMobil Readies IMO 2020 Compliant Fuel

ExxonMobil said that all its International Maritime Organization (IMO) compliant 0.5% sulfur bunker fuels developed to date are residual grades.The oil giant  has also announced specification details and confirmed that the formulations are all compatible with each other, provided that bunkering, storage and handling best practice guidance is followed.All of ExxonMobil’s announced low sulphur compliant fuels will be residual grades and will also be compatible with each other, provided best practice guidance for bunkering, handling and storage is followed, it said.It said the fuel will be available prior to the IMO deadline at Antwerp, Rotterdam, Genoa, Marseilles, Singapore, Hong Kong and Laem Chabang in Thailand.

First Magenta-Color ONE Ship Makes a Call in China

Ocean Network Express (ONE) has announced that the ONE Commitment, the company’s first magenta-color  containership with a carrying capacity of 8,560 TEU, successfully arrived at the Yantian International Container Terminals (YICT) on 24 May 2018. Operated on THE Alliance’s Asia to North America PN2 service, the ONE Commitment is painted with an unmissable magenta as its brand colour which reflects the energetic, innovative and confident perception to customers. ONE Commitment started her maiden voyage from Singapore on 15 May 2018 and has already called at Laem Chabang, Cai Mep and Kaohsiung before arriving at the Port of Yantian, China. She will continue her journey to Tacoma and Vancouver. When returning to Asia, she will call at Ports of Tokyo, Kobe, Kaohsiung and Singapore.

South Asia Gateway Terminal Welcomes ONE Service

Singapore-based Ocean Network Express (ONE) has introduced its new EC5 route calling at the Port of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Headquartered in Singapore, Ocean Network Express was established on July 7, 2017 through the integration of 'K' Line, MOL and NYK. It’s new EC5 service was launched on April 23rd at the South Asia Gateway Terminal (SAGT) at the Port of Colombo. South Asia Gateway Terminal (SAGT), is owned by a consortium of local and global companies, including APM Terminals, which holds a 33% share. Opened in 1999,  it was Sri Lanka’s first private terminal. It has seen almost continuous eyar-on-year volume growth and achieved a container throughput of 1.8 million TEUs in 2017.

APL Rolls out China Bangkok Express Service

APL has announced the launch of the China Bangkok Express (CBX) service, a new shortsea service that directly links South China and Thailand each week. Characterised by competitive transit times, the CBX service promises the industry’s fastest connection from Nansha to Bangkok in four days. Also designed to transport special cargo, this service offers reefer and breakbulk solutions to facilitate these shipments. Shippers with cargo that are destined beyond Asia may also tap onto APL's global services network at the trans-shipment hubs of Hong Kong and Chiwan in South China for further connectivity. The CBX service will commence sailing on 18 April 2018 from Hong Kong, and call at the ports of Hong Kong, Shekou, Nansha, Bangkok and Laem Chabang.

IPA Opens New Container Route

Incheon Port Authority (IPA) announced that a regular container route ‘Thailand-Vietnam Services (TVX)’ launched by five shipping companies – Namsung Shipping, Dongjin Shipping, Pan Continental Shipping, Pan Ocean and CK Line – was newly opened. Starship Pegasus (1,800 TEU) provided for the TVX entered the Incheon New Port SNCT early in the morning on August 16 for the first time. Starship Pegasus is one of the three ships operated for the TVX. The three ships (1,800 TEU) will be operated by Namsung Shipping, Dongjin Shipping and Pan Continental Shipping for 9 months. After that, they would be operated by Pan Ocean and CK Line for another 9 months. The TVX route is Incheon-Gwangyang-Busan-Ho Chi Minh-Laem Chabang-Bangkok-Laem Chabang-Ho Chi Minh-Incheon. It will be operated weekly.

Ocean Alliance Launches Day Two Product

The Ocean Alliance has launched its new Day Two Product with an estimated 3.6 million TEU carrying capacity provided by approximately 340 containerships deployed on 41 services. The new offering will commence in April 2018. Alliance partners CMA CGM, COSCO, Evergreen and OOCL will offer 20 Transpacific services, six Asia-Europe services, four Asia-Mediterranean services, four Transatlantic services, five Asia-Middle East services and two Asia-Red Sea services. “Ocean Alliance has been a fantastic success from a customer perspective since its launch last spring and we are very enthusiastic to announce our Day Two Product,” said Olivier Nivoix, Senior Vice President Ocean Alliance Lines.

Marubeni, PTT Plan LNG Bunkering in Thailand

Marubeni Corporation started a joint feasibility study with PTT Public Company Limited, Thailand`s national petroleum and petrochemical company, which aims at implementing LNG refueling to ships in Laem Chabang Port, the largest industrial port in Thailand. The regulation of exhaust gas will be tightened from 2020, and since LNG is an environmentally friendly fuel, ships that use LNG for fuel (LNG fueled ships) are expected to increase. In Laem Chabang Port, where more than 8,000 ships arrive and leave annually, a third expansion plan is being implemented with the demand for LNG bunkering expected to grow in this area due to increased exports and the tightening of environmental regulations.

Mr. Derek Chen is officially appointed as its President. Yang Ming Marine Offers Korea-Vietnam-Thailand Service

Taiwan-based ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation announcesdthat it will provide Korea-Vietnam/Thailand service (KVX) as of March 7th, 2018. The calling port rotation of KVX service is: Incheon–Ulsan–Busan–Shekou–Ho Chi Minh–Laem Chabang–Bangkok–Laem Chabang–Ho Chi Minh–Incheon. With the new KVX service and the existing CT2 service, YM will provide customers with more convenient and reliable services between Korea, Vietnam and Thailand. Two months ago, Yang Ming announced a new Asia Subcontinent Express service (Loop Code: AS1), which extends Yang Ming’s coverage of direct service to the trade between North China and Pakistan.
